Kamala And Liz Hit The Campaign Trail
The Kamala and Liz show may soon be coming to a city near you.
Politics :
In case you haven’t heard, Vice President Kamala Harris and former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney have collectively hit the road in an effort to defeat Donald Trump and elect Kamala Harris president on November 5th. The fact that a conservative Republican from a prominent GOP family is leading the pack to promote a Democrat is almost unprecedented. However, the Harris/Walz campaign has seemingly discovered a treasure trove of ‘Nikki Haley Republicans’ in multiple swing states. These voters would never/could never vote for Donald Trump under any circumstances — and Liz Cheney is giving them the “permission” to support a Democrat just this once to honor the Constitution and save democracy.
On Monday, the Kamala and Liz show began a marathon day of campaigning in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin while tackling such conservative counties as Chester County, Pennsylvania; Oakland County, Michigan; and Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Their appearances were presented in a Town Hall format and hosted by longtime Republican strategist Sarah Longwell, conservative radio host and writer Charlie Sykes, and Democratic stalwart Maria Kennedy Shriver.
Liz Cheney, a staunch Trump critic who endorsed Kamala Harris in September despite their party and policy differences was adamant and clear-headed about her support for Vice President Harris.
“Every single thing in my experience and in my background has played a part in deciding to support her,” Cheney said.
“In this race, we have the opportunity to vote for and support somebody you can count on. We’re not always going to agree, but I know Vice President Harris will always do what she believes is right for this country. She has a sincere heart, and that’s why I’m honored to be in this place.”
During a campaign stop in Michigan, Cheney said she understood why some Republicans might find it difficult to publicly support the vice president.
“I certainly have many Republicans who will say to me, ‘I can’t be public.’ They do worry about a whole range of things, including violence. But, they’ll do the right thing,” Cheney continued. “And I would just remind people, if you’re at all concerned, you can vote your conscience and not ever have to say a word to anybody, and there will be millions of Republicans who do that on November 5th, vote for Vice President Harris.”
According to ABC News, Milwaukee-based Democratic strategist Joe Zepecki believes that the number of actual votes the Kamala and Liz rallies move might be small, but could also be extremely significant.
“There are Republicans available to Harris who might need one last reminder, one last push in that direction,” Zepecki said of the Harris/Walz strategy.
Interestingly, it may already be working.
A Wall Street Journal poll from last week found that 8% of Republicans and GOP-leaning voters in Arizona said they would vote for Harris. Additionally, a recent New York Times and Siena College poll found that 9% of registered Republicans intend to vote for Ms. Harris, which is up 5% from the last poll.
Voters are also beginning to speak publicly.
George Levy, a 66-year-old voter from Delaware County (outside Philadelphia) said he was an independent until Donald Trump threw his hat into the political ring in 2015.
“I’m never going back. I’ll be a Democrat from now on,” he said while waiting in line to hear Kamala and Liz speak.
“[Cheney] did the right thing for our country, and I’m proud of her for doing that,” he said. “I know she doesn’t agree with many Democratic policies, but she believes in our country and loves our country, and I appreciate her speaking out.”
Although Kamala and Liz may appear to be strange bedfellows on paper, their belief in democracy and love of country are one and the same.
“The last decade … has been about some powerful forces suggesting that the measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you beat down, instead of what I think most of us believe — regardless of your party affiliation — that the real measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you lift up,” Harris said during a stop in Michigan. “For that reason, I’m not surprised that Liz Cheney and I are on the same stage 15 days before the election.”

Kamala and Liz campaign across the ‘Blue Wall.’
AP: Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, was essentially exiled from the Republican Party for participating in a congressional investigation of Trump’s involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. She lost her congressional seat in a primary battle two years ago. It’s not the only issue where Cheney has broken with her party, as she made clear Monday. Even though she considers herself to be “pro-life,” she said abortion restrictions have gone too far since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. “I have been very troubled, deeply troubled by what I have watched happen in so many states,” Cheney said. Taken in their totality, her comments over the course of the day amounted to an extraordinary attempt to roll out the welcome mat for Republican voters to back Harris, a politician that Cheney herself once described as a “radical liberal.” “This… Read more »
