No, it’s no longer a “honeymoon.” No, it’s not temporary euphoria. Vice President Kamala Harris has injected America with KamalaMania and make no bones about it, it’s the real deal!
Politics :
Only a few short weeks ago, Democrats were dreading August 19th. Today is the start of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago and the week Democrats would have nominated Joe Biden for 4 more years. Only a few short weeks ago, political operatives were discussing how Mr. Biden’s approval rating was at an embarrassingly low 30% — and how party leaders feared that not only was Mr. Biden headed for almost certain defeat, but that he would drag down-ballot candidates along with him.
Times were terrible. The Democratic mood was abysmal. Party leaders had all but resigned to the inevitable.
And then, KamalaMania happened!
Yes, the woman Republicans mistakenly branded as a non-threatening joke and Democrats pegged as missing in action caught everyone off guard. The moment Joe Biden agreed to step aside, she grabbed her party’s donkey by the neck, pulled it out of a deadly quicksand, raised $300 million in a matter of days, turned the political polls upside down, sent Donald Trump into a tizzy, and almost single-handedly gave her party a reason to hope that maybe — just maybe — Democrats could come out of 2024 victorious.
This Thursday, Kamala Harris will make history by becoming the very first woman of color to be nominated for president of the United States by a major political party. Interestingly, this all seemed impossible only a few short weeks ago.
KamalaMania has swept the nation. Young voters, independent voters, first-time voters, conservative voters who can’t stand Trump, blue-collar voters, college-educated voters — they’ve all been flocking to join the Kamala Harris – Tim Walz bandwagon and it’s driving the GOP mad.
A month ago, Joe Biden was trailing Donald Trump by 4+ percentage points in vital battleground states.  Now, Trump is trailing Kamala Harris by 4+ percentage points across the blue wall of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
According to The New York Times, Ms. Harris is now leading Trump among likely voters in Arizona, 50% to 45%, and has even edged ahead of him in North Carolina, a state he won 4 years ago. She has also narrowed his lead significantly in Georgia and Nevada and has tied Trump at 48% across an average of the 4 Sun Belt states. Oh, and there’s talk of Florida.
In a report from USA Today, Republicans are flummoxed at just how powerful and addictive KamalaMania has become.
“A month ago, the race appeared practically over. Biden was reeling from an awful debate performance and all-time low approval ratings. The polling was horrible for him. On the other side, America had just watched Trump survive an assassination attempt, raising a fist in the air to his supporters after being hit in the ear days before the Republican National Convention. Trump was on the verge of a blowout,” USA Today’s Dace Potas wrote.
“Then, in a matter of weeks, Trump chose Vance, Biden stepped down from the re-election race, and Harris took control of the Democratic ticket and, seemingly, the election.
“To put this massive swing in momentum into perspective, on July 15, Trump had an implied 66.2% chance of winning the November election. Since then, his chance has fallen by more than 20 percentage points, solidly trailing Harris,” Potas concluded.
Ouch!
Even GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson is sweating bullets at the possibility that the ascension of Harris could hand Democrats the White House, House of Representatives, AND the Senate.
On Saturday, POLITICO reported that Johnson held a private call with Republican members of Congress and issued a grim warning that the “numbers are ominous” for the GOP this November. Speaker Johnson currently holds a razor-thin 2-member majority. Additionally, his speakership has been tarnished by party infighting and multiple House Republicans announcing they would not seek another term (including high-ranking committee chairs and members from safe Republican districts).
GOP Rep. Richard Hudson, who chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee, issued similar warnings to his party. He is fearful that Kamala Harris’ party continues to outpace Republicans in fundraising and that Democrats are “peaking really at the right time” with less than 3 months to go before Election Day.
Granted, nothing is promised or inevitable. With just under 3 months to go before the November election, lots could change and the tides could turn back to favor Trump.
Still, it’s a modern-day miracle how Kamala Harris has turned this race completely around in a matter of a few weeks, is about to become the first woman of color nominated for president by any major political US party, and appears to be on her way to becoming the first female POTUS in US history.
OK WASSUP! discusses Politics:
KamalaMania appears to be the ‘real deal.’
She has really caught everybody by surprise. Nobody thought she could do what she has in this little time. I will be watching the whole convention.
