Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is President Biden’s pick for the US Supreme Court and Republicans are seething mad that a Black woman appears headed toward a successful confirmation for the nation’s highest court.
Top News Today
On Friday, Mr. Biden fulfilled his promise to name a Black woman to the Supreme Court and picked Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer. However, Republicans immediately and predictably bemoaned the pick because she’s Black, she’s a woman, and she’s expected to be a liberal voice on the bench.
Republicans denied former President Barack Obama an opportunity to name Judge Merrick Garland to the high court, pretending that it was “too close” to the presidential election (he had nearly a year left in his presidency at the time) to pick a new justice. They then proved themselves as hypocrites by fast-tracking selections from Donald Trump — including Amy Coney Barrett who was sworn in as a Supreme Court justice only 11 days before the 2020 presidential election.
Now, Republicans have no excuses and no games up their sleeve to prevent President Biden from naming who he wants on the bench — a Black woman — and they’re fighting mad.
Donald Trump flunkie and GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham threw a hissy fit over the weekend and said the selection of Judge Jackson “means the radical Left has won President Biden over yet again.” He also suggested that she shouldn’t have been the pick due to her Ivy League pedigree and said “the Harvard-Yale train to the Supreme Court continues to run unabated.”
It’s interesting that Sen. Graham has an issue with Judge Jackson’s Harvard education but was quick to confirm Yale-graduate Brett Kavanaugh and Harvard-graduate Neil Gorsuch to the high court when Trump was making the selection.
Then, Fox News personality Tucker Carlson claimed on national television that Judge Jackson was nominated solely “because of how she looks” (read: she’s a dark-skinned Black woman with braids) and said her nomination is nothing more than an attempt to “defile” the supreme court and “humiliate and degrade” the US.
“Do you want to live in that country? Most people don’t, of all colors,” Carlson barked. “They think you should be elevated in America based on what you do, on the choices not on how you were born, not on your DNA, because that’s Rwanda.”
Although Republicans will rant and rave and throw tantrums over the next few weeks, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is all but assured to be the next Supreme Court justice — and, here’s why.
Democrats (including the unpredictable Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kirsten Sinema of Arizona) will vote as a block to confirm Judge Jackson. However, several Republicans will have no choice but to swallow their white supremacy and approve Judge Jackson as well — or risk appearing racist and creating a “Black” problem for the party during this all-important election year.
Or, in other words, if Republicans were to attempt to deny a Black woman for the Supreme Court, they would do so at their own peril and risk revenge at the ballot box.
Thankfully, Ketanji Brown Jackson is not just a Black woman and certainly not some random lady President Biden found and flippantly decided to name to the court.
The 51-year-old attorney and jurist attended Harvard University for college and law school, where she served as editor of the Harvard Law Review. She began her law career as a public defender, then became a clerk for Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.
In 2010, the US Senate confirmed Jackson by unanimous consent to become the vice-chair of the United States Sentencing Commission. In 2013, she was confirmed by the Senate as a judge for the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. In 2021, the US Senate confirmed her to serve as a United States circuit judge for the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit. This is the recognized path for a Supreme Court justice and Judge Jackson followed it.
Based on her prestigious education and 3-time approval by the US Senate for judicial appointments, it will be nearly impossible to argue that Judge Jackson is not highly qualified for the Supreme Court. In fact, she is exactly (if not overly) qualified.
So, prepare yourselves to see grumpy Republicans whining and moaning and shouting that Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is the wrong choice to replace Justice Breyer. Then, prepare yourself to see the making of history and the first Black woman as a US Supreme Court justice.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson headed for the Supreme Court
Washington Post: Even before President Biden formally announced his appointment of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court on Friday, the Republican assault began. After congratulating Jackson, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) got right to the politics. “I also understand Judge Jackson was the favored choice of far-left dark money groups,” he said in a statement, “that have spent years attacking the legitimacy and structure of the Court itself.” Well. As Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) noted, it was right-wing dark-money groups that “hatched and executed” the strategy that “packed the court under President [Donald] Trump.” Think of McConnell’s argument as a form of transference. Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) tweeted that Jackson’s nomination “means the radical Left has won President Biden over yet again.” Interesting. Does this mean that Graham was part of “the radical Left” when he was one of three Republican senators — the others were… Read more »
