KUCINICH KO’ed!
The Republican presidential primary was not the only election contest on Super Tuesday. Several local contests were also held yesterday, with one very prominent casualty in a surprise conclusion.
Former presidential candidate and current Democratic congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio received a pink slip from Ohio voters yesterday, effectively ending his long congressional career.
Republican redistricting in Ohio combined with low Democratic turn-out at the polls yesterday (since President Obama is running unopposed), cost Kucinich the primary election in favor of his Democratic challenger, Rep. Marcy Kaptur. Kaptur will now face the Republican primary winner in the general election this November.
In preparation for a potential loss, Kucinich has recently been considering a move to Washington state to run for congress there in a Democratic-leaning and largely Asian district. He could do so by establishing Washington residency no later than mid-April, although he’d have to resign his Ohio congressional seat before moving to a new state.
