Those are the words of President Obama in an interview with 11-year-old student reporter Damon Weaver. Mr. Obama will deliver a televised back-to-school address to students today as promised, challenging students to work hard, set goals for their education and take responsibility for their learning. Many parents are honored to have the President of the United States speak such a positive message to their children. But some conservative parents are blasting the President, calling his speech an excuse to “brainwash” Americas children. (Double-Take) HUH???

Since the beginning of time, Presidents have given of themselves to speak to students in person and via the media. President George Bush and President Ronald Reagan both gave nationally televised speeches aimed specifically at American students. In 1989, Bush delivered a televised anti-drug speech, while Reagan delivered a 1986 commencement and Q&A session which was beamed over public television into 171 school districts. At the time, those speeches were never an issue and parents were happy their children could receive the attention of the leader of the free world. Never once in history has any school district or collective group of parents taken the position they DO NOT want their children hearing ANY message from the President of the United States…until now!

With Mr. Obama as President and wanting to speak to the nation’s children, charges are flying there simply must be some ulterior motive. Jim Greer, chairman of the Florida Republican Party is condemning Mr. Obama’s speech as an attempt to “indoctrinate America’s children to his socialist agenda.” Said Greer: “The idea that school children across our nation will be forced to watch the President justify his plans for government-run health care, banks, and automobile companies, increasing taxes on those who create jobs, and racking up more debt than any other President, is not only infuriating, but goes against beliefs of the majority of Americans, while bypassing American parents through an invasive abuse of power.” WOW! As of today, school districts in six states have decided NOT to allow their students to see President Obama’s speech, and parents in several other states are following the advice of the GOP to “call in sick” and keep their kids home in order to avoid the President. This in spite of the White House posting text of the speech for all to see in advance.

So Nixon, Ford, Reagan, AND Bush can give speeches to students for decades – no problem. But the minute a black man becomes president he has to get permission and his words approved FIRST before he can speak. That is Str8 Bulls**t!
