Liz Cheney On The Outs Over ‘The Trump Lie’

Spread The Love

Ladies and gentlemen, the days of Liz Cheney in the Republican leadership are careening toward an untimely end.

Politics
Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming (who happens to be the daughter of former vice-president Dick Cheney) currently holds the 3rd most powerful spot within the GOP congressional leadership.  However, all that is about to come crumbling down over one very specific reason: Donald Trump.

Unlike everyone else in the Republican Party who is so afraid of ‘The Donald’ that they won’t dare blink unless Trump tells them to, Liz Cheney has repeatedly refused to drink the Kool-Aid and join the “Trump Is God” cult.  Not only has she refused to trumpet the big Trump lie that the election was stolen from him and that he is the rightful winner, but she has also been outspoken in holding Trump accountable for the January 6th attack on Capitol Hill.

“The 2020 presidential election was not stolen,” Rep. Cheney boldly tweeted earlier this week.  “Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.”

She also challenged her congressional colleagues to admit that the US Capitol riot on January 6th was incited by Donald Trump, that the party must move on from Trump in order to maintain any sort of credibility with voters, and that anyone not willing to hold Trump accountable for the attack should be “disqualified” from running for office as a Republican.

“I think we have a huge number of interesting candidates [wanting to run in 2024],” but… “I do think that some of our candidates who led the charge, particularly the senators who led the unconstitutional charge, not to certify the election, you know, in my view, that’s disqualifying.”

She then added: “I think that adherence to the Constitution, adherence to your oath has got to be at the top of the list. So, I think, you know that certainly will be a factor that I’m looking at and I think a number of voters will be looking at as they decide about ’24.”

Cheney’s choice to not only stand up to Donald Trump and insist that he stop promoting his “Big Lie,” but to also stand up to her congressional colleagues and dare them to “grow a pair” and stop kowtowing to ‘The Donald’ has not sat well with those in the GOP who live in fear of Trump.  So, instead of following Cheney’s lead to distance the party from Trump and to follow democracy, Republicans are choosing to oust the outspoken congresswoman.

During an appearance on Tuesday on Fox News, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (a bonafide Trump flunkie) was caught on an open mic admitting that he’s had it with Liz Cheney.

“I think she’s got real problems,” McCarthy was overheard telling Steve Doocy just before a live “Fox and Friends” interview. “I’ve had it with … I’ve had it with her. You know, I’ve lost confidence. … Well, someone just has to bring a motion, but I assume that will probably take place.”

So, it has become crystal clear that McCarthy would rather throw Liz Cheney under a bus than piss off Donald Trump and hurt any chance of him becoming Speaker of the House someday.

McCarthy is in Trump’s back pocket and Trump is the puppetmaster controlling the entire Republican Party.  Too bad for Liz Cheney, but she’s about to become Trump’s sacrificial lamb just so he can continue to save face and promote the big election lie.

A vote to oust Cheney from her leadership post is now all but certain and could happen as soon as May 12th.

  1. CNN:

Donald Trump is effectively forcing every Republican who wants a political future to show how far they’re willing to compromise on principle, truth and conscience for power.

Most GOP leaders with aspirations of higher office don’t think twice before genuflecting before the former President. But the party’s No. 3 House leader, Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, is making a lonely stand by refusing to appease Trump over his incitement of the Capitol insurrection and claims of a stolen election. And her attitude seems almost certain to sacrifice a promising career in the defense of democratic values.

The lawmaker’s power base splintered in plain sight on Tuesday, once again demonstrating Trump’s formidable control over his party, which, if anything, has solidified since he left power after his humiliating election loss.

Cheney appears certain to face another attempt to oust her from her post as soon as next week, three months after easily repelling a previous attempt to remove her in a secret ballot. This time, her survival is in grave doubt.

    1. CNN: Donald Trump is effectively forcing every Republican who wants a political future to show how far they’re willing to compromise on principle, truth and conscience for power. […]

I think CNN really missed the mark on this. Trump figured out a long time ago just how easy it would be to get Repubs to abandon any pretense of standing on “principle, truth, conscience” and moral high ground. That’s why he ran as a Repub in the first place.

As I’ve said many times before…he’s a reflection of THEM. And THEY are actually leading him.

  2. So Repubs want to kick Liz out because she is telling the truth? This party is going down in flames.

  3. I cannot wait for all these spineless Repubs to reap what they sow. Trump is punking all of them and they are going right along with it. McCarthy is the biggest joke up there. I want to see them all go down.

    1. Yes indeed. They are spineless creatures. But more than anything they are all “deplorables.”

And he and they are punking themselves!

  4. If they oust her and she has no future with her own party, is there any way she might join the Democrats?

    1. Perhaps a slim possibility. A very slim possibility.

I think slim to none. But who knows?

  5. I checked out Liz Cheney’s actual voting record and I found that prior to her vote to impeach him she voted in line with Trump’s position 92.9% of the time.

So I guess the biggest of ALL the thousands and thousands of “big” lies he’s told over the years was just a bridge too far for her?!

    Hmmm. Okay.
