The world is fondly remembering and paying tribute to Marian Robinson, who passed away last week.
Current Events :
Marian Lois Shields Robinson, the mother of former first lady Michelle Obama, passed away on Friday from an undisclosed cause. Her passing prompted condolences, tributes, and well-wishes from all facets of society, including special words from her son, Craig Robinson, Barack and Michelle Obama, granddaughters Malia and Sasha Obama, and a host of other family members.
“We knew Mrs. Marian Robinson as a devoted mother and grandmother with a fierce and unconditional love of her family. With the blessing of friendship, we felt that love ourselves –- with every quiet smile or warm embrace she shared with us,” President and Mrs. Biden said in a statement.
“She believed, like we do, that family is the beginning, middle and end. She moved into the White House to be there for her family when they needed her the most, and in so doing, she served her country right alongside them. Her life is a reminder that we are a great nation because we are a good people.”
“The entire Biden family sends its deepest love to Michelle, Craig, Barack, Kelly, and the six irrepressible grandchildren whom she helped to raise and so loved, and in whom her kind and gentle spirit lives on.”
“My heartfelt condolences go out to First Lady Michelle Obama and her family on the passing of her beloved mother, Marian Robinson,” wrote Rev. Dr. Bernice King. “My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. May you find peace and strength in your cherished memories.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with First Lady Michelle Obama and her entire family during this difficult time. We are deeply saddened by the passing of her mother, Marian Robinson. May they find strength and comfort in each other and in the cherished memories of Mrs. Robinson’s remarkable life,” said The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center.
“What an incredible woman. What an incredible life. We’re mourning the passing of Marian Robinson,” wrote Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.  “We’re praying for her, for @MichelleObama, for the Obamas and the Robinsons, and for their whole family.”
“There was and will be only one Marian Robinson,” said former president Barack Obama. “In our sadness, we are lifted up by the extraordinary gift of her life. And we will spend the rest of ours trying to live up to her example.”

“My mom Marian Robinson was my rock, always there for whatever I needed. She was the same steady backstop for our entire family,” Michelle Obama wrote on Twitter/X.
However, she also shared the link to a longer tribute written by herself, former President Barack Obama, daughters Malia and Sasha, and several other family members that was most personal.
“Marian Lois Shields Robinson — our mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother — had a way of summing up the truths about life in a word or two, maybe a quick phrase that made everyone around her stop and think. Her wisdom came off as almost innate, as something she was born with, but in reality, it was hard-earned, fashioned by her deep understanding that the world’s roughest edges could always be sanded down with a little grace.
“Don’t sweat the small stuff.
“Know what’s truly precious.
“As a parent, you’re not raising babies — you’re raising little people.
“Don’t worry about whether anybody else likes you. Come home. We’ll always like you here.
…
“After the White House, she returned to Chicago, reconnecting with longtime friends, trading wise-cracks, traveling, and enjoying a good glass of wine. She passed peacefully this morning, and right now, none of us are quite sure how exactly we’ll move on without her.
“As a mother, she was our backstop, a calm and nonjudgmental witness to our triumphs and stumbles. She was always, always there, welcoming us back home no matter how far we had journeyed, with that deep and abiding love.”
Marian Robinson was 86.
