Matt Gaetz Quits Attorney General Consideration

Spread The Love

Sorry, Trump. Matt Gaetz has shocked the political world by agreeing that he will NOT be the next US Attorney General.

Top News Today :
Donald Trump originally tapped GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida to lead the US Justice Department as attorney general. Believing he was headed to sure confirmation, Gaetz resigned from the House of Representatives and prepared for a smooth confirmation hearing.

Bad move!

On Thursday, the former congressman removed his name from consideration to become America’s top attorney after it became clear he simply didn’t have the votes to be confirmed. Either that, or Trump told Gaetz to get lost!

Matt Gaetz has been under intense scrutiny by the US Justice Department and the House Ethics Committee. The DOJ was investigating him as a part of a broad sex trafficking probe, including allegations that he participated in sexual misconduct with underage girls and engaged in illicit drug use.  He also made numerous enemies within his party after stalling the election of Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker — and then introducing the motion that ultimately removed McCarthy from the Speaker’s post.

In a face-saving move, Gaetz announced that he was declining consideration for attorney general in order to end any “distractions” to Trump and his upcoming administration.

“While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition,” Gaetz wrote on Twitter/X.

Pam Bondi

Although he won’t be attorney general, Gaetz could still land a job in the Trump White House via a position that doesn’t require Senate confirmation.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump wasted no time selecting a replacement for Gaetz. On Thursday afternoon, Trump selected former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as his new choice to run the Justice Department.

According to Wikipedia, the 59-year-old Bondi is an American attorney, lobbyist, and politician who served as the 37th Florida attorney general from 2011 to 2019 and was the first woman elected to the office.
