Maxine Waters’ Stalker Is Going To Prison
The man who threatened to attack and violently murder Congresswoman Maxine Waters of California is going to prison.
Current Events :
Brian Michael Gaherty, of Houston, had such a strong racial and political distaste for Rep. Waters that he vowed via a series of telephone calls to “put a cap” between Waters’ eyes, “cut [her] throat” and “stomp her.” He also informed her that his “boys in the area” had a “contract” out to kill her.
According to NBC News, the 61-year-old Gaherty made a call to Rep. Maxine Waters on August 8, 2022, and left this violent and profanity-laced voicemail message:
Hey, you Black b*tch. You f*cking with my people man. All that racism sh*t b*tch, you up in age, 80 years old and sh*t, trying to remember 1960 and all that bullsh*t. And causing controversy b*tch. We got something for your ass now b*tch, you black motherf*cker. Yeah, we coming for you bro. You better. Hey, like you told them motherf*ckers to go and do what they had to do. We coming for your Black ass, b*tch ass now motherf*cker. You — ass b*tch. I’mma cut your Black ass throat n*gger.
Court records showed that Gaherty made at least 2 additional calls to the 85-year-old Maxine Waters, and frequently used racial slurs and epithets.
He was contacted by a US Capitol Police special agent in October 2022 and ordered to cease harassing the congresswoman. However, he didn’t take the notification seriously and hung up the phone.
A month later, Gaherty called Rep. Waters again and warned her that she made a fatal mistake in reporting him.
“This ain’t no threat. It’s a godd*mn promise,” Gaherty said in a rambling message.
Not long after, he called yet again and spoke directly with a staffer who answered the phone.
“Tell Congresswoman Maxine Waters when I see her on the street I’m going to bust her upside her head,” he said. When the staffer asked who was calling, Gaherty snapped: “F*ck who this is, tell that lying b*tch I’m looking for her.”
“Notably, Special Agent Guest’s warning did nothing to deter the defendant,” prosecutors wrote in their sentencing memorandum.
Gaherty was arrested and indicted in August 2023 on 8 counts related to the threats (4 counts of making threats in interstate communications and 4 counts of threatening a US official).
On Monday, he was sentenced to spend 33 months in federal prison and fined $10,000. Because US District Judge R. Gary Klausner found that Gaherty specifically targeted Waters because of her race, he also added a hate-crime enhancement to the sentence.
