McConnell: Donald Trump Can Do No Wrong

Spread The Love

Count Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell into the gang of Republicans who’ve drunk the Trump Kool-Aid and refuse to ever hold him accountable for anything.

Politics:
Yes, Sen. McConnell is so fanatical in his love for the Republican Party over his love for country and what’s right, that he has now admitted there’s no crime that would cancel his “obligation” to vote for and support Donald Trump should he run again in 2024.

During an interview with Axios, host Jonathan Swan asked the Republican leader to define his “moral red lines.”

Help me understand this. I watched your speech last year in February on the Senate floor after the second impeachment vote for Donald Trump,” Swan said while reminding the senator that he said Trump was “morally” responsible for the January 6th attack against the US Capitol. “How do you go from saying that to two weeks later saying you’d absolutely support Donald Trump if he’s the Republican nominee in 2024?”

“Well, as the Republican leader of the Senate, it should not be a front-page headline that I will support the Republican nominee for president,” Mitch retorted.

“After you said that about him, I think it’s astonishing!” Swan stated.

“I think I have an obligation to support the nominee of my party,” McConnell barked.

“Is there anything they could do?” Swan asked.

“Well, that will mean that whoever the nominee is has gone out and earned the nomination,” McConnell argued.

“You seem to hold two concurrent conflicting positions!” Swan exclaimed.

“Not at all inconsistent. I stand by everything I said,” McConnell interrupted. “Because I don’t get to pick the Republican nominee for president. They’re elected by the Republican voters all over the country.”

McConnell

So, in other words, good ol’ Mitch would support a thief, a murderer, a child rapist, an insurrectionist, or anyone who earned the Republican nomination — regardless of their crime??

Sadly, yes! The exchange proved that even if Donald Trump stood in the middle of Fifth Avenue and committed murder, Mitch McConnell and the Republican Party would STILL support him no matter what — just as Trump hypothetically predicted back in 2016.

If you’re confused about what’s wrong with politics and this country, look no further than this admission from the Republican leader of the United States Senate.

HUH?! Where, pray tell, did Jonathan Swan ever get the absurd notion that Mitch McConnel of ALL people has a “moral red line”?….Lol

Wait…I’m gonna need a moment to “ruminate” on this one…smh!

  2. Okay so seriously…..

Jonathan’s question may imply that he doesn’t know that Mitch McConnel is a cynical and ruthless political right-wing leader who wouldn’t know anything about a “moral red line” if his life depending on it and he was holding a gallon can of RED paint.

But Jonathan isn’t new to the world of American politics. He’s the “national political correspondent” for Axios and he knows exactly who Mitch is. He asked a good question!

Mitch tried, but Failed, to finesse his answer.

  4. Business Insider:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday said he was “shocked” to hear that he’s considered a “ruthless” politician, adding that his wife and children like him.

“You are known for playing a ruthless style of politics,” Axios’ Jonathan Swan told McConnell during an interview. “Where do you draw your moral red lines?”

McConnell laughed, then replied: “I didn’t realize I was known for playing a ruthless — I thought, my wife thinks I’m a really nice guy.” McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, served as President Donald Trump’s transportation secretary from 2017 to 2021 and as President George W. Bush’s labor secretary from 2001 to 2009.

“My kids like me. I got a lot of friends,” McConnell added. “I’m shocked to hear such a comment.”

Swan pressed McConnell, saying that some people in the country might agree with the “ruthless” characterization and asking him again where he draws his “moral red lines.”

“I’m perfectly comfortable with the way that I have conducted my political career,” said McConnell, who’s served in the Senate since 1985. “I’m very comfortable with my moral red line.”

As Swan continued to question McConnell on his position, the Republican leader responded, “I say many things I’m sure people don’t understand.”
