We do not say HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY, since such a slogan is a slap in the face to the spirit of the holiday and the deceased veterans responsible for it. Today is a day of memorial to those who died for their country. Their deaths are not meant to be celebrated as a “Happy” occasion.
Just as no one would ever say “Happy Funeral” to someone memorializing a loved one, nor should we continue the mistake of saying “Happy Memorial Day.” Â That slogan is reserved for Veteran’s Day, when we happily celebrate all veterans who served their country in the military.
