She’s been called an “angry black woman,” “unpatriotic,” and most recently “trash in the White House.” But for the past few days on the world stage she’s simply been called… “LOVELY.”

Michelle Obama has been the toast of the town since arriving in England earlier this week alongside her husband the President, and expectations for her arrival were extremely high. “What will she wear?” “Will she be gracious?” and “Is she a modern day ‘Jackie Kennedy’?” were all questions posed as America’s new First Lady prepared for her introduction on the international stage. But after spending a day touring London with the British Prime Minister’s wife Sarah Brown, and posing for a photo-op with the wives of global leaders attending the G-20 Summit, Mrs. Obama did not disappoint. She was regal, she was stunning and was even the focal point of what some have termed the “First Wives Club.” London’s DAILY MIRROR referred to the First Lady as “Michelle — the Fashion Belle” and ordinary British citizens lined the streets to get a glimpse at the extraordinary woman fast becoming known for dressing fashionably elegant, yet affordable.
`
On Thursday, Mrs. Obama visited The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School, an all girls academy of about 1,000 students ages 11 to 17, two-thirds of whom speak English as a second language. Fifty-five languages are spoken at the school. Ninety percent of the students are ethnic minorities, and no single ethnic group makes up more than 21% of the student body. As Mrs. Obama spoke the girls hung on her every word and treated her as if she were an American Queen. The day turned emotional as some of the girls wiped away tears of joy after receiving personal hugs from Mrs. Obama, who for them personifies what they can only dream of becoming in a country where no minority has risen nearly as high as the First Couple.
`
Throughout her stay Mrs. Obama has been the most sought out and talked about woman in London. This was never more evident than when the Obamas were leaving Buckingham Palace and Queen Elizabeth broke with usual protocol, by putting her arm around Mrs. Obama in a rare personal embrace asking her to please “Keep In Touch!”
