Midterm Election 2018: Democrats Win House!
Sorry, Donald Trump. The results of Midterm Election 2018 are in and your unchallenged free reign as the self-imposed King of America has come to an end.
Politics
In Tuesday’s Midterm Election 2018, Democrats won a major victory by handily regaining control of the US House of Representatives.
.
WINS
In a political system built on checks and balances, the United States government has operated of late with ZERO checks and ZERO balances. Amidst the power of a Republican-led White House, Senate, and House, Donald Trump has grown accustomed to doing whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted.
Those days have now come to an end.
Democrats won the Midterm Election 2018 with a 30+ gain in the US House of Representatives. Women, minority, and LGBT candidates played a huge role in the wins, which included a major victory by 29-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York who is now the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. These Democratic gains will effectively return fairness and parity to American politics.
So, what does this mean going forward?
This means that Rep. Elijah Cummings will become the new Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight, Rep. Adam Schiff will become the new Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and Rep. Maxine Waters will become the new Chairwoman of the House Financial Committee. Or, in other words, Donald Trump now has official watchdogs in Congress.
Donald Trump can (and will likely) now be subpoenaed to testify regarding possible Russian collusion and other treasonous acts. Donald Trump will (almost certainly) have to release his tax returns and reveal his foreign business dealings. His Republican yes-men in Congress can no longer protect him.
Beginning with the new session of Congress, Democrats will have a myriad of tools at their disposal. Democrats will not hesitate to do what Republicans were too afraid to do and not allow Trump to bully them. Democrats will be able to renew a congressional probe into Trump’s emoluments clause violation and conduct their own investigation alongside the Robert Mueller inquiry.
Additionally, Democrats could introduce articles of impeachment should they find reason to do so.
These decisions will be left up to the new Speaker of the House, who will replace Paul Ryan. Democrats must now decide if they wish to return Nancy Pelosi to the Speaker’s Chair or elect some other colleague. Stay tuned…

LOSSES & MORE
While winning control of the House of Representatives, Democrats were unable to regain control of the US Senate. They were also unable to secure wins in several prominent races followed nationally.
Democratic progressive Beto’ O’Rourke was defeated by Ted Cruz in the Texas Senate race. Additionally, Andrew Gillum came up short in becoming the first African-American Governor of Florida. However, the Florida senate race between Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson and former GOP Gov. Rick Scott is so razor thin that Florida law will require an automatic recount.
As for Stacey Abrams and her quest to become the first African-American (and female) governor of Georgia, the race remains too close to call at this writing and she has refused to concede. Voting indiscretions and the razor-thin margin could see the Georgia race contested in the courts and/or sent to a runoff.
Aside from the Abrams race, Democrats were able to pick up other governorships.
Democrat J.B. Pritzker easily defeated Gov. Bruce Rauner in Illinois. Democrat Gretchen Whitmer was victorious in the race to replace the term-limited GOP Gov. Rick Snyder in Michigan. Additionally, Democrat Tony Evers trounced incumbent Gov. Scott Walker in Wisconsin, while Gavin Newsom cruised to an easy victory Tuesday night over John Cox in California.
Although Republicans will continue to control The White House and the US Senate, Democrats now command the US House and multiple State Houses — which is ultimately bad news for “The Donald.”
Thankfully, Midterm Election 2018 has ushered in a new day in America and returned a balance to US politics. How Trump and his Republican cronies will play their hands against Pelosi, Cummings, Waters, and other Democratic leaders will be interesting to watch.

Okay so a few thoughts on the results…. First: I’m a bit disappointed that Gillum didn’t win. Of the two historical governor races, I felt Gillum had a better chance of winning his race than Abrams. She may still get enough votes to trigger a runoff (votes are still being counted in Dem-leaning counties) but it’s gonna be an uphill battle. We shall see. Second: I’m very much interested in seeing the numbers (how many people actually voted and the demographic breakdowns). Third: I’m not so sure that Trump’s “unchallenged free reign as the self-imposed King of America has come to an end.” Yes, the Dems gained enough seats to take control of the House of Congress. Just enough seats. When you consider all that was at stake this year think I have to agree with the sentiment: “Democrats won the House, but Trump won the election” “While Tuesday night… Read more »
