Mike Bloomberg: A Democratic Rising Star?

Spread The Love

While the Democratic Iowa Caucusus were in chaos after voter inconsistencies prevented them from releasing a single result as of midnight early Tuesday morning, political pundits were left scrambling to fill hours of television time with something credible to discuss.  And so began the conversation of Mike Bloomberg for president.

Politics
Yes, Mike Bloomberg, the multi-billionaire owner of Bloomberg News, the former Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Democrat (again), and the former mayor of New York City, is the most recent candidate to throw his hat into the race for the presidency.  Although Bloomberg joined the Democratic primaries extremely late, pundits are already warning that “Mayor Mike” could stage a come from behind theft of the nomination and give Donald Trump a run for his money in November — literally!

Mike Bloomberg

Although we’ve never seen his tax returns or any other financial proof, Donald Trump “claims” to be a billionaire.  However, with a proven net worth of $60.2 billion, Mike Bloomberg is a bona fide billionaire with a capital “B.”  Why does this matter, you ask?  Because Bloomberg is not counting on a single dollar of donations from regular Americans to run his campaign.  He’s willing to spend several billion Mr. Washington’s of his own money to seize the nomination and stick it to Trump in a way that no one else can.

Bloomberg recently proved his gravitas by purchasing a major political ad during Sunday’s Superbowl LVI (needless to say, it wasn’t cheap).  He then gave us a taste-test of his toughness via a brief sparring match with Donald Trump himself.

Proving that fellow New Yorker Mike Bloomberg concerns him, ‘The Donald’ took to Twitter Trump with attacks against “Mini Mike” while declaring him “fake news,” a loser, out to get Sanders, and, most damningly, “short” and someone who will need to stand on a box just to make it through a debate.

Not willing to take even a single punch sitting down, Bloomberg immediately fought fire with fire and shot back via his national press secretary, Julie Wood, who said in a statement: “The president is lying. He is a pathological liar who lies about everything: his fake hair, his obesity, and his spray-on tan.”

Ouch!

Later in the day, Bloomberg added: “I will stand on my accomplishments of what I’ve done to bring this country together and get things done. I’ve been doing it for a long time. I stand twice as tall as he does on the stage, on the stage that matters.”

Mike Bloomberg

It didn’t end there.

Trump mouthpiece Kellyanne Conway said of Bloomberg: “His outsized wealth and outsized ego are matched by his overwrought jealousy and spitefulness towards the president. Jealousy is a dangerous motivator for people, leading them to confuse with a sugar high that money can buy with substance that voters demand to hear.”

Bloomberg advisor Howard Wolfson then shot back: “History will call to account every single person within this administration who has enabled and abetted this lawless and dangerous president.” To which Conway responded: “Howard and I have already made history together. His work for Hillary [Clinton] and my work against Hillary helped keep her out of the White House.” To which Wolfson (yes, this continued) responded: “And in less than a year we will make history again when Kellyanne and Mr. Trump will have to stand and watch Mike take the oath of office.”

Hmmm…

Mike Bloomberg not only has the cash to outspend Donald Trump 10 times over, but it appears he has the zingers to continually get under ‘The Donald’s’ skin.

Is it time for the Democratic Party and its voters to start taking “Mayor Mike” seriously?

Yep. I have to admit, with Biden’s weak showing last night in Iowa, and Bernie running as hard as he can -As A Socialist – it is beginning to look like Bloomberg may actually have a real chance to beat whoever and win the nomination.

We shall see.

Now (sigh)..about last night. The Dems had better recognize that the Iowa Caucus has Got.Ta.Go. I’m in total agreement with Americans who view last night as an “unmitigated disaster.” Btw- WHY, pray tell, is the DNC still supporting “a quaint tradition” of a small, 90% + White state that’s NOT in any way, shape or form representative of the Dem party?…that disenfranchises a lot of White voters? and keeps turning out the ‘Same Old White Crew.’ The only exceptions being Obama’s historical run in 2008 and 2012. The truth is, after Obama’s 2 runs, Iowa reverted back to what it’s always been, mostly meaningless. And even during Obama’s runs THIS should have been acknowledged by all reasonably intelligent folk: ‘Caucuses are outdated and irrational. Replace them with primaries.’ Editorial Board Iowa’s first-in-the-nation presidential nominating event, scheduled for Feb. 3, 2020, is a fossil: an outdated and irrational system”….
