MORE TROUBLE FOR BISHOP EDDIE LONG

Spread The Love

First there was one. Then two. By Saturday night there were four.  Now there are reports that as many as 30 young men are prepared to come forward in the rapidly growing sexual molestation case against Bishop Eddie Long.

However you try to spin or twist it, this is not at all good news for the popular Atlanta pastor who, ironically, preaches an extremely homophobic message.  It’s bad enough when one person comes forward with claims of inappropriate sexual contact with them while they were a minor.  But when 30 young MEN present damning notes, inexplicable photos, and corroborated stories, let’s just say the evidence is pretty insurmountable.

Bishop Long has been eerily quiet about the incredibly serious charges against him.  He originally agreed to a radio interview and possible press conference last Thursday to address the claims, but canceled both at the 11th hour supposedly at the advice of his attorneys.  But with Sunday morning fast approaching and a congregation of 25,000 waiting for him to address the church and say something about the charges, Bishop Long could remain quiet no more.

And so yesterday morning, at the 8am and 11am services, Bishop Long took to the pulpit before a SRO audience of congregants and journalists to deliver his Sunday sermon — and to finally speak about the case against him.  Except, what was most interesting is not what he said, but rather what he didn’t say. Pastor Long vowed to “vigorously” defend himself against the lawsuits alleging that he used his position to coerce young male members of his flock into sex acts. “Please hear this: I have been accused. I’m under attack. I want you to know that I am not a perfect man, but this thing I’m gon’ fight,” said Long, while preaching a sermon on surviving painful times. “I feel like David against Goliath.  But I’ve got five rocks, and I haven’t thrown one yet,” he said to thunderous applause.  Then he dropped his microphone on the pulpit with a loud thud, took his wife Vanessa by the hand and left the stage.  Never once did he say “I AM INNOCENT,” or “THESE CHARGES ARE FALSE,” or  “I DID NOT DO THIS!”  No!  All he said was “I am not a perfect man,” and “I’m gon’ fight.”  Hmmm…

With four young men filing four separate lawsuits against him, how will Bishop Eddie Long have the time to lead a mega-church of 25,000 members AND STILL “fight” the charges levied against him?  And if 30 young men do come forward with extra charges and evidence, how can Bishop Eddie Long remain an effective leader of a church of 25, let alone 25,000?? And as a minister, with photos you’ve taken of yourself in a bathroom, wearing spandex, and forwarding to young male members of your congregation — how do you even begin to “fight” that sort of evidence???

However you try to spin or twist it, this is not at all good news for the popular Atlanta pastor!

BINGO DJ!!!Not ONCE did the Biship say "I"M INNOCENT!" .."I DID NOT DO THIS!"Instead he put on a show to say a whole lot of NOTHING except "I"M A VICTIM!"SAY WHAT??!So here's the deal from my perspective:Seeing some of the SUGGESTIVE pictures sent to YOUNG males in his church/academy wass more than ENOUGH to signal RED FLAGS for me!Under WHAT circumstance would it EVER be appropriate for an ADULT man OR woman_let alone a "Bishop" to send SUGGESTIVE pictures of any kind to young people???I'll answer that question: ABSOLUTELY NONE.Add to that what the Bishop DID NOT say yesterday, as correctly pointed out by DJ, confrims for me that the Bishop is GUILTY of something might BAD and it WILL come out!And IF I'm right about the Bishop_and IF indeed this man opts to drag this sorry mess out BEFORE he finally SETTLES OUT OF COURT, his family and his congregation will suffer needless prolonged… Read more »

I forgot to mention the IRONY of this story:In the end: In the "Court of Black Public Opinion" Bishop Long will be judged by the very SAME Black HOMOPHOBIC culture HE himself played a Key role in cultivating and promoting.IMO, it couldn't happen to a more deserving HYPOCRITE.

I don't usually like blaming somebody until their proven guilty. But this dude is just plain GUILTY!What's a Minister doing sending out pics of himself in body suits to young boys? And he says he's only being a mentor to the kids. But why aren't there any young girls getting special treatment from the Bishop? Also like DJ and Truthiz mentioned, he has never once come out and said he didn't do this. He dodged the issue and dodged the press. Didn't answer one question. If somebody accused me of something like that I wouldn't be sleeping until I cleared my name and made everybody know I was innocent. He's a pedophile plain and simple. Too bad for the members of his church who are so brainwashed they can't even see the obvious.

Christian

God Bless you Bishop. Stay strong through the storm.

Unfortunately events like this happen more often than many people think.  Only most pastors are not over a mega church (remember Ted Haggard?)  There WILL be more to come – you can be sure.  As they say "where there's smoke…" Pray for all involved.

I have said this from the beginning. These young men broke into a office, his office from which I understand has a laptop computer and other items. But, the steal his IPhone. Think people and get away from the hate for one moment. They took this Iphone to get the pictures off and they returned the key to the desk. They were on a mission and this I know. These pictures could be for his wife. I have pictures only for my spouse to see on my Phone.I live in Atlanta and know other young people from New Birth and all of these boys are facebook friends who have questionable conversations on facebook. I know that some other young people from New Birth know of these young men character

BD

If what you said is true, why would these 4 boys want to get together and ruin Bishop Long? What's their motivation?

BD

Just saw this. Good add. He will be judged by the same system he set up to judge others. Or in other words, what goes around comes around.

SAW THIS POST ON AN ALTERNATE SITE AND WANTED TO SHARE:  4 to 30 young boys is all the proof we need!Besides, Eddie never said he was innocent! If 4 different women accused a man of rape, would you trust his innocence until proven guilty? Would you care to be left alone with such an *innocent until proven guilty* individual? Hell NO!

Truthiz

"Let me be very clear. I DID NOT DO THIS!" "Unfortunately, on advise of counsel, I am NOT at liberty to discuss the allegations further. But let me be very clear AGAIN. I DID NOT COMMIT THE REPRHENSIBLE ACTS I"V BEEN FALSELY ACCUSED OF and I look forward to MY day in Court to prove it!" "In the meantime. PLEASE pray for ME and my family!" How hard would it have been for Long to say that???! How would THAT have "hurt" his case???Instead: He chose to CAREFULLY state: "I am NOT a perfect man. But I am NOT the kind of man now being portrayed in the media.' "I'm gon fight."Now. THAT kind of deliberate vagueness AND "play" on words is no doubt enough for many_if not most_of Long's supporters to vindicate him in THEIR eyes. And that's NOT just sad. It's deeply disturbing! Here's what I'm gonna do: I'm gonna say a prayer for Everyone involved in this mess., especially the alleged… Read more »

What I don't get is why so many gay black men remain in the closet? Because if this preacher wasn't in the closet maybe he could date on his own level instead of going after young males at his church. I came out to my parents as a teenager. Best choice I ever made in my life. But this guy seems real troubled. Plus he preaches real strongly against homosexuality all the while secretly doing it himself. What a hypocrite.

Frisco:"<span>What I don't get is why so many gay black men remain in the closet?"</span><span></span><span></span><span>You've asked a MILLION $$$ question Frisco…and even though I'm a Black-American female I'm going to try to answer your question. Hopefully a Balck male readers (or readers) will chime in too.</span><span></span> <span></span><span>Okay. I'd love to say that the primary reason that gay black men remain in the closet is due to the toxic HOMOPHBIC culture prevalnet in Black America.
