While the Catholic Archdioceses of Washington, DC has threatened to punish the homeless with no more food over gay rights, the ultra-conservative Mormon Church of Utah has come out IN FAVOR of gay rights. Huh???
For the first time in church history, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has announced its support of gay rights legislation, banning discrimination against gays in housing and employment, while not embracing same-sex marriages. “The church supports these ordinances because they are fair and reasonable and do not do violence to the institution of marriage,” said Michael Otterson, the Director of Public Affairs for The Morman Church. Salt Lake City will now become the first Utah community to prohibit bias based on sexual orientation or gender identity, making it illegal to fire someone from their job or evict someone from their residence because they are lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgender.
Because Utah lawmakers tend to quickly fall in line when the extremely influential church takes a political stance, this new action could have broad effects, since more than 80 percent of the state’s politicians including the Governor and members of Congress and the Senate are all Morman church members.
How is it the Mormons are looking more advanced than the Catholics??
