MRS. CLARENCE THOMAS DEMANDS APOLOGY
It would almost be funny if it weren’t so true and factual. But now several years after revelations of sexual impropriety nearly derailed the confirmation of her husband to the U.S. Supreme Court, Mrs. Clarence Thomas is demanding an apology from his accuser: Anita Hill.
According to Ms. Hill, who is now a professor at Brandeis University, she received a rather bizarre and unexpected voicemail the other day. “Good morning, Anita Hill, it’s Ginny Thomas,” said the voice. “I just wanted to reach across the airwaves and the years and ask you to consider something. I would love you to consider an apology sometime and some full explanation of why you did what you did with my husband. So give it some thought and certainly pray about this and come to understand why you did what you did. OK, have a good day.”
Initially, Hill didn’t believe the call could be real. “I initially thought it was a prank,” Hill said, adding “And if it was, I thought the authorities should know about it.” So she reported the call to police. But as it turns out, the call WAS real. But why would the wife of Justice Thomas make such a request via telephone after so many years?
“I did place a call to Ms. Hill at her office extending an olive branch to her after all these years, in hopes that we could ultimately get past what happened so long ago,” Virginia Thomas admitted late last week. “That offer still stands, I would be very happy to meet and talk with her if she would be willing to do the same. Certainly no offense was ever intended.”
Um… is this lady for real?
