Muslim Ban Upheld By Supreme Court
The US Supreme Court handed Donald Trump a much sought after victory this week. By saying YES to his Muslim ban, the justices have also said YES to discrimination!

In a 5-4 decision, the predominately conservative justices voted to uphold what Trump once called a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims” entering the United States. Apparently, the 3rd time really is a charm for “The Donald,” since this is now his 3rd attempt at blocking an entire religion from crossing an American border.
Utilizing his tried and true “Us versus Them” mentality, Trump has long stereotyped Muslims as terrorists and created a make-believe necessity to keep them all out of America in the interest of safety. By making Muslims out to be an invisible “boogeyman,” Trump has successfully convinced his base and now, the highest court in the land, that by ending Muslim entry into the US he is effectively ending terrorism in the US. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Calling Tuesday’s Muslim ban ruling a “tremendous victory” and “a moment of profound vindication” for his immigration policies, Trump was giddy with excitement.
“Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a tremendous victory for the American People and the Constitution,” Trump said in a statement. “This ruling is also a moment of profound vindication following months of hysterical commentary from the media and Democratic politicians who refuse to do what it takes to secure our border and our country. As long as I am President, I will defend the sovereignty, safety, and security of the American People, and fight for an immigration system that serves the national interests of the United States and its citizens. Our country will always be safe, secure, and protected on my watch.”
On Tuesday, Democratic lawmakers ripped into the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Trump’s controversial Muslim ban.
“Today’s decision undermines the core value of religious tolerance on which America was founded,” Rep. Keith Ellison, the first Muslim ever elected to Congress said in a statement. “I am deeply disappointed that this ruling gives legitimacy to discrimination and Islamophobia.”
“America holds a unique place in the world as a nation of immigrants,” Ellison continued. “Unlike some other countries, we welcome refugees, asylum seekers, and dreamers fleeing war and instability in other parts of the world. America is and must remain the ‘land of the free’ where the family escaping authoritarianism in persecution in North Korea can seek shelter and thrive.”
Ellison compared the court’s ruling to the 1944 Korematsu decision that backed the detention of Japanese-Americans during World War II and the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson ruling that upheld the constitutionality of racial segregation laws.
“Today’s ruling is unjust,” Ellison added. “Like the Korematsu decision that upheld Japanese internment camps or Plessy v. Ferguson that established ‘separate but equal,’ this decision will someday serve as a marker of shame. Until then, we must keep fighting for an America that recognizes that every human life has value and reflects our values of generosity and inclusion for all.”

Rep. Hank Johnson of Georgia compared the ruling to the court’s 2013 decision to strike down part of the Voting Rights Act (Shelby County v. Holder), as well as the 1857 Dred Scott decision that no black person — free or slave — could claim US citizenship.
“Shelby, Korematsu, Dred Scott, and now, Trump v. Hawaii,” Johnson tweeted. “Today’s decision joins a line of rulings history will look back on in shame.”
Despite Trump’s views, the biggest threat to America over the past 10+ years has been homegrown terrorists — AKA “Angry White Men” — who have used their easy access to guns to shoot and kill kindergarteners, Rep. Gabbie Gifford aides, Colorado movie patrons and more. So, sorry Donald but stopping Muslims at the door does not stop terror.
