NAACP: “Tea Party Is Racist”
Is the Tea Party a racist movement? It is if you ask the NAACP.
According to a new report released by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Tea Party has “given platform to anti-Semites, racists and bigots,” and has attracted white nationalists looking for recruits. “The Tea Party movement has unleashed a still inchoate political movement who are in their numerical majority, angry middle-class white people who believe their country, their nation, has been taken from them,” it says.
In a foreword from NAACP president Benjamin Todd Jealous, he pointed out that the vast majority of Tea Party supporters “are sincere, principled people of good will.” But in a recent study from the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights, six nationwide Tea Party networks at the core of their movement, and leaders of all but one have shown signs of blatant racism, including continued questions about the validity of President Obama’s birth certificate and his eligibility for office.
In a letter to NAACP supporters, Jealous wrote:
Just moments ago, the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights (IREHR) released a report documenting specific examples of Tea Party leaders and Tea Party-associated organizations providing platforms for anti-Semites, racists and other bigots.
The report serves as a reminder: There is a very active presence of racists in America’s public political discourse, and there is a very real threat of moving backward if we do not stand up and speak out.

The Tea Party is racist. I don't think he made the point well though
