Technology –
netTALK Duo Is A Winner!

I consider myself to be a high-tech type of guy — the type who stays ahead of the latest in tech toys and other modern technology.  So, when Vonage VoIP phone service came available several years ago, I was one of the first to jump on the bandwagon. Who wasn’t looking to ditch those $100 a month Ma Bell bills back at that time, in favor of unlimited nationwide calling for a mere $24.99 per month? Ahhh, it was a sweet ride.  But as time went on and technology grew, I recently stumbled upon the phone solution I think I’ve always been looking for:  NetTALK.

Technology
NetTALK DUO is the latest in VoIP offerings, which provides telephone service over a broadband Internet connection.  I know, I know — some of you are thinking if you have a cell phone, why would you need to have a landline? Well, aside from the fact there are no per minute charges like a cell phone, no day/night/weekend minutes like a cell phone, no dropped calls like a cell phone, no contracts like a cell phone, and no dead batteries that need recharging like a cell phone — the NetTALK DUO is plenty much more than that.

The DUO is about half the size of an iPhone and portable enough to carry in your pocket. It’s like MagicJack but is 100 times better and more reliable, since it doesn’t require leaving your computer on and running to work. It’s also amazingly simple to set-up. Connect one end of the DUO into your broadband Internet router, then plug a standard telephone into the other end.  Sign into the NetTALK portal online, grab a telephone number, select your preferences, and you’re done.  Now you can call anywhere in the U.S. or Canada for free, or anywhere else around the world for cheap international rates.

But the fun doesn’t stop there.  If you’re going on an extended business trip or an international vacation, just take the DUO with you.  Simply plug it into the hotel’s Internet connection OR into any laptop computer (Windows for now. Mac is coming), then make and receive calls just as if you were home.  I took mine to London and all my calls rang directly to me there just as if I was home. I had great fun answering the phone and having friends say “I thought you were in London?”  And I would respond “I am!” Forwarding my cell phone calls to my DUO also meant anyone who called me on either of my phones was able to reach me in London or wherever I was — all for a local call.

But wait, there’s more!  NetTALK also has a smartphone app, which allows you to make VoIP calls over Wi-Fi or 3G on your iPhone, Blackberry, Android, or Windows Mobile Phone for FREE! Yep, the app is FREE and the calls are FREE. You can basically drop your cell phone plan down to the lowest available, then make all your outgoing calls over NetTALK and save a bundle.  They even offer FREE video calls via your computer (similar to Skype), and FREE 24/7 conference calling, for those times when you need to make a business or personal call to several people at once.  You can even record your calls!

OK, now here’s the best part: the NetTALK DUO costs only $49.95 to purchase, with 1 full year of phone service INCLUDED. Then it’s only $29.95 PER YEAR thereafter. That’s what I paid PER MONTH with Vonage and 4 times less than Ooma. With crystal clear home telephone service, the ability to plug it into any broadband router or my own computer when I travel AND the free iPhone app for FREE calls, the NetTALK DUO has become a lifesaver.

Needless to say, I ditched Vonage a few months ago in favor of NetTALK — and I haven’t looked back since. It’s an innovative and refreshing new product that the company seems deeply dedicated to constantly improving. If for no other reason than the free calls you can make on your mobile phone, the NetTALK DUO is a must.  If you’re anything of a tech connoisseur like me, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

Thanks for this info. I just checked out the company website and it looks interesting. I've been using a cell phone only for a few years but now I'm tired of the large bills and day or nite minutes. I'm thinking about giving this netalk a try.
