NEW CATHOLIC SEX SCANDAL
Abuse within the Catholic Church is back on the rise. Recently, an usher for Pope Benedict was caught running a gay sex ring out of the Vatican in Rome. Late last week, the Pope wrote an unprecedented letter to Ireland apologizing for chronic child abuse within the Catholic Church there. Now comes word of a new scandal in South America.
Police are investigating an abuse scandal in Brazil, which was uncovered last week when a Brazilian network aired a video that showed a priest having sex with a teenage altar boy. The report, aired by the SBT television network, identified the priest as 82-year-old Luiz Marques Barbosa.
In the video, a man said to be Monsignor Marques Barbosa realizes he’s being videotaped and is heard on camera asking, “Who is it? Who’s at the window? Who is it? Who’s there?” According to SBT, the videotape was secretly made by an unidentified 21-year-old man who alleges that he was previously abused by the same priest. According to Brazilian media reports, Bishop Valerio Breda has ordered Marques Barbosa’s removal from the priesthood.
Since priests are required to be celibate and not marry, many Catholics are calling for the church to get rid of this ancient and outdated concept. The church has suffered in recent years to attract dedicated men into joining the priesthood and has discovered that the priesthood is rampant with homosexual pedophiles.
