THE NEW FACE OF HEALTH REFORM
As President Obama and the Democrats prepare to push through health care reform, here is a great human interest story that will surely touch your heart.
Meet Marcelas Owens. He’s an 11-year-old kid who’s mom, Tiffany (shown in the picture he is holding), was a health care activist. Tiffany Owens, died of pulmonary hypertension in 2007 at age 27 after losing her health insurance because she could no longer work. Now, Marcelas has picked up where his mom left off and has become an outspoken proponent of health care for all.
Senator Patty Murray, Democrat of Washington, said that she met Marcelas at a rally in support of major health care legislation earlier this year. “After I spoke, I turned around and there was this little boy standing next to me looking right straight up at me with his big brown eyes and said to me, ‘You can’t let anybody else die like my mom did.’ Well, that kind of takes you back.”
