NEW FROM APPLE
Yesterday was Apple’s annual World Wide Developer’s Conference (WWDC), but for Apple fanboys it was more like a Happy Birthday!
WWDC is the place where Apple first introduced the original iPhone 5 years ago. Despite the death of founder Steve Jobs last year, Apple still made headlines yesterday with its latest and greatest inventions.
Apple began the day with a refresh of its line of MacBooks. The new MacBook Air now has the new Ivy Bridge processor at 2GHz dual-core i7, up to 8GB of RAM and a 512GB “hard drive” that is actually solid state flash memory. It will feature USB 3.0 and a 720p built-in FaceTime camera.
The new MacBook Pro now sports an Ivy Bridge 2.7GHz quad-core i7 along with USB 3.0 an HD camera and up to 7 hours of battery life. Apple also announced an ultra thin, .71 inch thick, 4.46 pound MacBook Pro with retina display. The resolution of 2880×1800 pixels makes this the highest resolution of any laptop in history, with 3 million more pixels than an HDTV.
The new OS X operating system is Mountain Lion. It will be available next month for $19.99, and will feature heavier iCloud integration for items like documents and reminders, desktop iMessages and the ability for iPhone, iPad and Mac users to message each other on any one of those devices.
The iOS operating system for iPhone and iPad is also being updated. Virtual assistant Siri will now be able to offer sports scores, answer questions on Yelp, help you with OpenTable restaurant bookings, or even get movie information from Fandango. The new iOS will also provide GPS based reminders, Do Not Disturb hours for phone calls, cellular based FaceTime calling, as well as greater integration with Facebook.
