A NEW TERRORIST THREAT?
The Al-Qaeda terrorist group took a moment yesterday to remind America and the world that they are still very much alive and well.
In a new ad posted on a terrorist website, Al-Qaeda said they are “Coming Soon Again to New York,” as a reminder of their successful attacks on 9/11 that began with the toppling of New York’s World Trade Center.
This very public threat reminds me of the days on the school playground, when a bully only needed to beat up someone once. Then he could walk around the playground like the King of the Jungle, merely threatening to beat someone up again (but never going through with it) just to command their attention and respect. Well, that seems to have been Al-Qaeda’s game since the attacks of 2001: continue making threats and we’ll all continue flinching because we know what they’re capable of. But would Al-Qaeda really take out an expensive and highly PhotoShopped ad to announce a legitimate and imminent threat? Not hardly!
“It’s not tied to any threat,” New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly reassured. “But it’s obviously a cause of concern.
“It reminds us that New York is still very much on their (terrorists’) minds.”
