NEW WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY
Soon, there will be a new face behind the press podium at the White House.
Jay Carney, who has been the spokesman for Vice-President Joe Biden and is a former Washington bureau chief for Time magazine, will become the new White House press secretary, as part of a flurry of personnel changes in the West Wing.
New White House Chief of Staff William Daley announced Mr. Carney’s promotion last Thursday, which was one of more than a dozen appointments made to give the administration a new look as President Obama heads toward a reelection campaign.
Although Mr. Carney is relatively new to the role of being a press secretary, he is known for having several longstanding relationships with many in the Washington press corps. Mr. Carney will be faced with many challenges when he takes over the podium in the West Wing briefing room, including controlling the Obama message as the president begins the 2012 presidential campaign.
