NEW YORK PREPARES FOR TERROR TRIAL
With New York City bracing for the upcoming court trials of the lead masterminds in the 9/11 attacks, officials are already fearful New York could once again become a bullseye for terrorism.
Security will be at an all-time high for the trial of five accused 9/11 terrorists, which will ironically be held just a few blocks and eight years away from where the twin towers of the World Trade Center fell. Rooftop snipers, armored vehicles and lock-down zones around the Pearl Street courthouse in lower Manhattan are part of the plan to insure safety during the trial of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and his cohorts. Bomb sniffing dogs and even a small but strong military presence will also be on hand to keep the city secure during the trial. “It’s highly appropriate that those accused in the deaths of nearly 3,000 human beings in New York City be tried here, and the NYPD is prepared for the security required,” Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly vowed.
The men to be tried are currently being held at the Guantanamo Bay terror prison and likely won’t be brought to New York for weeks. But law enforcement leaders in New York are not leaving anything to chance and are already busy planning to keep the city safe and secure. The NYPD, FBI, and CIA will all be collectively involved in protecting the public from anyone intending to create terror, disrupt the trial, or gain international recognition by trying to free the defendants.
