PRESIDENT MOURNS FORT HOOD VICTIMS
“No faith justifies these murderous and craven acts;
no just and loving God looks upon them with favor.”
These are the words of President Obama, who mourned the fallen soldiers of the Fort Hood tragedy in services yesterday afternoon. One by one, the President spoke the names and told the stories of the 13 people slain in the shooting rampage, paying honor to their memory while denouncing the “twisted logic” that led to their deaths. “We need not look to the past for greatness, because it is before our very eyes,” he continued before a crowd estimated at 15,000 on the enormous Texas Army post.
The touching tribute attended by President and Mrs. Obama was part of an afternoon of consolation, which included a private meeting with family members of those killed as well as the surviving wounded and their families. Mr. Obama’s remarks put a human face on the victims who perished, who ranged in age from 19 to 62.
