NO MORE OIL!
Late last week, after 85 days and up to 184 million gallons of pure crude spilled, the unthinkable happened — British Petroleum (BP) FINALLY halted the catastrophic oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico!
As BP representatives, government officials, and Gulf fishermen and residents held their breath in hopeful anticipation, BP dispatched a new approach to the out of control environmental disaster. Deep-sea robots attached a newer, tighter-fitting cap onto the ruptured oil well, while company officials conducted tests to make sure the solution would be a permanent fix in finally stopping crude oil from gushing into the Gulf of Mexico.
According to Site Commander Thad Allen, this latest cap was mounted on the well after a two day preparation of the site and was tested by closing several valves over time to measure pressures in the well. “BP [was] in regular contact with the government during the test,” Allen said. “Finally!” said Renee Brown, a school guidance counselor visiting Pensacola Beach, Fla., from London, Ky. “Honestly, I’m surprised that they haven’t been able to do something sooner, though.”
Now that testing has concluded, collection of oil is expected to resume normally. If the cap continues to work, BP will soon be able to capture all of the leaking oil and funnel it up to ships on the surface. And this dreadful nightmare will finally be over!
HALLELUJAH!
