Politics –
Nunes Taints Intel
Committee Investigation

Republican Congressman Devin Nunes of California is the Chairman of the House intelligence committee — but he’s also being called a partisan puppet for the Trump administration.

Politics
Nunes and his committee of Republican and Democratic representatives have been looking into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as Donald Trump’s claims that former President Barack Obama “tapped my wires.” As chairman of the committee, Nunes is expected to conduct a fair and bipartisan investigation on behalf of the US government. So far, he has not.

The moment he received information that communications involving Trump transition team members may have been incidentally intercepted, Nunes didn’t immediately convene his committee to share the news. Instead, he ran directly to The White House and blabbed to Donald Trump. He then raced to the media to conduct a live (attention seeking) press conference.

Now, Democrats are calling for Nunes to step down, saying he has tainted and “betrayed” the capacity of the panel to conduct a balanced investigation and has personally lost all credibility to carry out his job.

“At this point, the committee’s independence is on life support,” Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat from California, said following a tense closed-door meeting of the committee last Thursday. “Not since September 11th has this committee been charged with such an important responsibility. And that requires independence and collaboration [with Democrats]. He has betrayed both of those.”

Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland added that Nunes “compromised his position” so severely, he should step aside and allow an independent and impartial team to complete the investigation.

Rep. Adam Schiff

Democrats are pressing Nunes to divulge the source of his supposed new information. They also want to know why he bypassed the committee to brief Donald Trump, who immediately seized the moment as a victory and vindication of his claims that Mr. Obama spied on him.

Needless to say, Nunes has created a huge perception problem. On Monday, it was revealed that he had a secret meeting with an unnamed White House source only a day before his abrupt press conference to leak information. Nunes also canceled a public hearing on the Russia situation, which was slated for today and was to include the NSA and CIA. It appears his intentions are to help Trump save face, particularly since last week’s revealing public hearing from FBI Director James Comey came very close to admitting discovery of collusion between Trump and Russia.

Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, has gone public in calling for Nunes to completely recuse himself from the investigation.

Politics
Nunes has since issued what was described by sources as a partial apology for mishandling the situation. He also acknowledged that he should have first informed Democrats on the panel. However, he did not back away from claims that Trump and members of his transition team were surveilled.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi

“The president didn’t invite me over. I called down there and invited myself because I thought he needed to understand what I saw and that he needed to try to get information because he has every right to see it,” Nunes said. “It’s a judgment call on my part. At the end of the day, sometimes you make the right decision, sometimes you don’t.”

His words did not settle with his fellow committee members.

“He just apologized; he didn’t specify what his apology was about,” Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., said after the meeting.

Understandably, his actions have raised very valid questions about whether Nunes, who, ironically, was himself a member of Trump’s transition team, has sufficient credibility to continue to conduct a fair investigation.

“I think he sent a signal that as a member of the Trump transition team himself, he probably should not be intricately involved in this investigation,” House Democratic leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi said.

How can a congressional chairman effectively investigate Donald Trump, when he’s simultaneously providing Donald Trump with an advanced alert of his findings — even before briefing his own committee members?

Has this Trump stooge irreversibly undermined the congressional investigation?

Top of the morning to you, DJ.

Ya know (sigh) – the Stupid…AND the LIES….AND the Corruption…AND the Paranoia…AND the INCOMPETENCE of this dangerous joke of a president (and his merry band of sycophants)….it just NEVER ends does it?

"How can a congressional chairman effectively investigate Donald Trump, when he’s simultaneously providing Donald Trump with an advanced alert of his findings — even before briefing his own committee members?"

"Has this Trump stooge irreversibly undermined the congressional investigation?"

We both know the answer to those questions.

And to think – we're just 2 months into this national nightmare.

Mr. BD

I don't care how much he tries to change the subject and pretend nothing is wrong Nunez must go. You can't be chairman of the intelligence committee doing things like that. If you are doing a investigation it has to look like it is being done fair. Nothing he is doing looks fair anymore. Even if he meant well it all looks bad now so I don't think he has a choice. It is only a matter of time.

From Yahoo: House intelligence committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., is resisting growing calls for him to step aside over the revelation he had gone to the White House grounds to receive classified information related to committee’s investigation into Russian interference in last year’s election. Speaking to reporters as he arrived on Capitol Hill Tuesday morning, Nunes said the investigation is “moving forward.” “We’ve been investigating Russia for many, many years,” he said. Asked if he felt he could continue to lead the investigation, Nunes replied: “Why would I not?” His comments came amid a chorus of Democrats calling for his recusal. “This is what a cover-up to a crime looks like,” Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., a member of the committee, said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “Going over to the White House, he went to receive information that you know, Joe, we can receive at the Capitol. We have our… Read more »

NY Times is saying: A pair of White House officials played a role in providing Representative Devin Nunes of California, a Republican and the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, with the intelligence reports that showed that President Trump and his associates were incidentally swept up in foreign surveillance by American spy agencies. The revelation that White House officials assisted in the disclosure of the intelligence reports — which Mr. Nunes then discussed with President Trump — is likely to fuel criticism that the intelligence chairman has been too eager to do the bidding of the Trump administration while his committee is supposed to be conducting an independent investigation of Russia’s meddling in the last presidential election. Several current American officials identified the White House officials as Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the senior director for intelligence at the National Security Council, and Michael Ellis, a lawyer who works on national security issues… Read more »

BREAKING: Thurs. April 6, 2017 at about 10:00 AM EST "Nunes Steps Aside In Russia Probe" House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) will step down from leading the investigation into possible ties between President Donald Trump’s team and the Russian government, he said in a statement Thursday. Nunes said he will have Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas), with assistance from Reps. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and Tom Rooney (R-Fla.), lead the investigation. Nunes addressed calls from several groups for the Office of Congressional Ethics to investigate a possible violation of ethics rules on his part ― charges that Nunes said “are entirely false and politically motivated.” Nunes said he’d asked to speak with the Ethics Committee “at the earliest possible opportunity in order to expedite the dismissal of these false claims.” House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said in a statement that he still trusted Nunes but supported Nunes’ decision to step… Read more »

The entire GOP is involved. They've benefited from:

1- Russian dark money for their campaign coffers.
2- Rusisan hacking to help them maintain their majority.
3. Mitch knew about the Russian operation a year ago which gave him the confidence to block Garland and save the SCOTUS seat for a right wing judge. […]

I'm beginning to believe that most of the republicans are involved and maybe even some democrats. […]
