NY Jets Sign Michael Vick
The NY Jets have released quarterback Mark Sanchez in favor of someone old new: Michael Vick.

Current Events
Vick was signed last Friday to a 1 year, $5 million dollar deal, which has angered many Jets fans and PETA activists.  You may remember that back in April of 2007, Vick was charged with illegal interstate dog fighting, which included the maiming and killing of dogs that didn’t perform to expectation.

NY Jets fans took to social media and voiced strong protest against the signing of Vick. “Michael Vick has no place in football. He disgusts me,” wrote 1 fan.  “He electrocuted dogs in a bathtub for fun. I’m supposed to root for this guy?” said another.

Over the weekend, PETA posted: “At least Michael Vick can’t drown, electrocute, hang, or shoot a football the way he terrorized “man’s best friend.” #smh #Jets

Current Events
Despite Vick’s former discretions, the Jets say they believe in 2nd chances.  They also recognize that although Michael Vick hasn’t played a full season since 2006, he is still a very talented football player who could provide a much needed presence to the struggling team.

Once nearly replaced by Tim Tebow, Sanchez now finds himself out of a job, with few options remaining for him in a starting quarterback position. The team freed up $8.3 million in salary cap by cutting Sanchez, who was scheduled to be a $13.1 million cap charge this season. He was also due a $2 million roster bonus on March 25th.

Full disclosure – I know pretty much NOTHING about most NFL teams. And I know even LESS about most NFL players (who they are, the team they play for and their production level).

So suffice it to say- the fact that I know about the Jets, Mike Vick AND Mark Sanchez says something – DRAMA (in some form or fashion).

Vick- Who knows if he'll end up being any real hlep to the Jets? given his AGE, added to his inability to stay healthy and get the job done.

And unless I'm wrong(?)…I think the number of Jets fans expressing anger about Vick being signed are in the minority. It seems that many, if not most, Jets fans actually support the deal.

And did I hear correctly? Is Chip Kelly/the Philadelphia Eagles considering signing Mark Sanchez?!

Sean

I like the signing I don't think he starts because Geno Smith is in his second year and I think he deserves the starter reps. However, what Vick does bring is some veteran leadership to a locker room that is in desperate need of it. Vick can also show Geno how a mobile QB can survive in a pass heavy league. Sanchez to the Eagles? I would think he ends up in Seattle or Arizona those are more sanchez friendly offenses than the Eagles.

Jodie

I don't know much about football, but I do remember Michael Vick from 2008. I think the good part is that they only have to have him for a year if he sucks. Also, that he is cheap, and he frees up some money for other players to help build the team. I guess I think overall I'm indifferent, but I can see why they would do it, it seems to make good business sense.

Stuart

I can't believe people would support this. Michael Vick is a lousy excuse for a human being. He hung dogs, drowned them in buckets, beat them, and shot them. There is no way I will be cheering for a team that not only supports this kind of person, but pays him 5 million dollars.

Mr. BD

A second chance might be good for him and the Jets. Vick paid his debt to society. The man needs to work so give him a chance. One year is a low risk deal.

Juno

Give the guy a second chance. He did a crime, he did the time. He has since been named comeback player of the year, and set up a charities and made several charitable donations. Playing football is his career, he seems to be good at it. Let him play.

LEO the Lion

No way! I am with Stuart. I can't support someone who has done the things Vick has done. Anyone who can hurt an animal is seriously messed up. I'm a Lions fan myself so I hope the Jets tank even more now they have Vick.

Tom

I'm a Jets fan, and I don't like Michael Vick. But, a true fan wouldn't let something like this come between them and their team. Jets for life. Go Jets!!!
