Obama Addresses Immigration Reform
In keeping with a campaign promise to tackle the issue head on, President Obama delivered a major address yesterday on his vision for comprehensive immigration reform.
Speaking before a crowd of reformists in Las Vegas, in a state that continues to see an annual increase in its Hispanic population, Mr. Obama outlined his ideas on how the United States should deal with the issue of undocumented immigrants. Among his ideas:
– Crack down on businesses that hire undocumented workers
– Deal with the 11 million immigrants here illegally
– Provide a legal pathway to citizenship
– Bring the legal immigration system into the 21st Century
“I’m here because the time has come for common-sense, comprehensive immigration reform,” Mr. Obama said to cheers from the assembled crowd. “It won’t be a quick process, but it will be a fair process,” he added. “And it will lift these individuals out of the shadows, and give them a chance to earn their way to a green card and eventually to citizenship.”
