OBAMA-BIDEN

Spread The Love

The majesty of Hollywood-designed films and presentations, combined with the presence of a mostly Democratic entertainment industry, helped close out the 2012 Democratic National Convention last night. Obama-Biden are officially back on the campaign trail.

It was a star-studded evening that included words from Eva Longoria, Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson and a rocked out musical performance from the Foo Fighters. But Hollywood didn’t rule the night. Former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who was the victim of an assassination attempt early last year, appeared and lead the Pledge of Allegiance to a tearful and cheering crowd. Caroline Kennedy lent her star power to the evening, along with son Jack Schlossberg, who is part of the next generation of Kennedy’s heading into politics. Former Republican governor of Florida Charlie Crist also spoke, saying the Republican party abandoned him and throwing his support behind the Democratic ticket.

But the headliners of the night were Vice-President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama.

Forced to cancel plans to deliver acceptance speeches at Charlotte’s 20,000 seat Bank of America arena due to weather, the 2 men were still able to pack people and a punch inside the convention hall.

Vice-President Biden warmed up the crowd with words directed squarely at blue collar voters. He drew sharp distinctions between Romney and the president, then cleared a path for the headliner of the night — Barack Obama.

Mr. Obama was poetic 4 years ago during his 1st acceptance speech. Last night, he was presidential. He chose words and themes that led voters toward one simple thought: choice. He is the man who ended the Iraq war, halted the collapse of the American automobile industry, ended “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and captured and killed Osama Bin Laden. By contrast, he said Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are “new” to foreign policy, since they both lack knowledge and experience in that arena.

The Democrats had a very simple task coming into Charlotte this week: rev up the base and give Independents and undecided voters a reason to consider them. On that front, they were beyond successful. Job well done!

WHAT WAS THE BEST MOMENT OF THE CONVENTION?

I couldn't agree more. Of course November will really tell the story. But I think this week, by most accounts and darn near every significant measure, was a stellar week for the Democratic Party in general. And I think now gives the President a better than even chance to win re-election. TGIF!

Repubs had a hurricaine and a old man talking to a empty chair. Dems did this one right. It was probably the best convention in a long time all the way around. Great job.
