OBAMA COMFORTS COLORADO

Spread The Love

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes
and death shall be no more.”

Those are the words of President Obama, who spent yesterday visiting with the families and victims of the Colorado movie-theater massacre.  The president offered words of comfort and consolation in what is being called one of the worst cases of gun violence in U.S. history.

“Words are always inadequate in these kinds of situations, but my main task is to serve as a representative of the entire country and let them know we are thinking about them and will continue to think about them each and every day,” Mr. Obama said before his private meeting with the victims. “The awareness that not only all of America but much of the world is thinking of them might serve as some comfort.”

Mr. Obama visited the University of Colorado hospital, where 23 of the 70 victims were treated. He praised the local police for their “magnificent” efforts and even singled out one young woman whose heroic actions stopped a wounded friend’s bleeding, even as the gunman continued firing.  After his meeting, the president said he “tried to assure them that this perpetrator has received a lot of attention, that attention will fade away. … In the end… what will be remembered are the good people who were impacted by this tragedy.”

In all, 12 people were killed and 58 more were injured inside the crowded Century 16 Movie Theater in Aurora, CO. 24-year-old James Holmes was captured outside the theater just after the shooting and did not put up a struggle, although he has since refused to cooperate with authorities.  Holmes’ apartment was booby-trapped with explosives and other deterrents, in expectation of first responders who went to his home for evidence.  His apartment building and neighborhood has been evacuated pending the discovery of further explosives.

Holmes is a recent dropout from a neuroscience graduate program and has been assigned a public defender.  His shooting spree inside the midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” is said to have been spurred by his belief that he was “The Joker” character from previous Batman movies.

Holmes is currently being held without bond.

A tragedy such as this reminds me of an old Black gospel that always touches me, titled: "In Times Like These."And as if the story weren't grievous enough, authorities now know that based on evidence "more people may have been killed if the gunman's semiautomatic rifle had not jammed."CNN: "Colorado theater shooting suspect makes first court appearance" http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/23/justice/colorado-th…My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and the entire Aurora community.

I'm making a prediction right now, this dude pleads insanity and gets off!! Just seeing him in court today with that red hair and nothing look on his face shows somethings wrong with him.

I can't agree with you at all here, BD. Holmes actually appeared as if he were playing insane for the cameras today. His hair and face seemed more manufactured than not. I hope he doesn't get off as you say. That would be a travesty to justice.
