Obama Fixes Canceled Health Policies

Late last week, President Obama announced an administrative fix for former health plans that were canceled, promising Americans that they will be allowed to keep those canceled policies for 1 year, while everyone adjusts to the new health care law.
“Americans whose plans have been canceled can choose to re-enroll,” the president said last Thursday during a White House news conference, fixing a huge blunder early enrollers encountered by signing up for Obamacare.

In the coming weeks, insurance companies will be required to notify customers of what their policies lack, as well as available options consumers have for better coverage under the new law. “This fix won’t solve every problem, but it will help a lot of people,” Mr. Obama said.
A myriad of problems with the rollout of Healthcare.gov along with Mr. Obama’s approval ratings reaching an all time low in recent weeks has prompted the president to acknowledge that he has to “win back some credibility.”

“We fumbled the rollout,” the president said, pointing out “I was not informed directly that the website was not working correctly.” Mr. Obama has bet his entire presidency on the success of his signature health care law and has vowed to see it through.
However, congressional Republicans don’t believe Mr. Obama’s plan fully addresses the problems with the health care law and some vulnerable Democrats in the upcoming 2014 election agree with them. On Friday, 8 out of 9 House Democrats who represent districts Mr. Obama lost in 2012, voted with the Republican “Keep Your Health Care Plan” — a sort of “Obamacare fix” that the White House and many Democrats say would completely gut the law.
