On Friday the president nominated Jeh (pronounced “Jay”) C. Johnson, a former top lawyer at the Pentagon, in what is being called a shift from the department’s emphasis on immigration and border issues to a greater focus on security against possible attacks.
In his announcement, Mr. Obama said he selected Johnson because of his “deep understanding of the threats and challenges facing the United States,” while crediting him for helping design and implement policies that dismantled much of al-Qaida overseas.
“He’s been there in the Situation Room, at the table in moments of decision,” Mr. Obama said during Friday’s Rose Garden announcement.

If confirmed by the Senate, Johnson would replace Janet Napolitano, who left the administration last month to become president of the University of California. Johnson would manage a department with more than 20 different agencies, a budget of more than $45 billion and a staff of hundreds of thousands of civilian, law enforcement and military personnel. His job would include making decisions about disaster relief, distribution of a limited grants budget, which immigrants living in the U.S. illegally to deport and how to protect passenger jets from would-be terrorists.
I don't feel good about Home Land Security taking the focus from the borders. How can you leave your borders open? It is not possible to secure a country without securing its borders.Lol, what country leaves its borders as a second priority? And how about not picking and choosing which illegal aliens to send home. Lets send all of them home. It is disturbing to see people play leaders and government officials.
