Obama Shines, GOP fails In State of the Union
Unbiased Political News
In a masterful speech with traditional ebbs and tides filled with patriotism, emotion and even a hint of contention, Mr. Obama set the tone for the remaining years of his presidency. He promoted immigration reform by introducing a Hispanic teen who came to this country unable to speak a word of English, but will soon be off to begin his first year of college. He touted the success of Obamacare by introducing a woman who signed up for the new health care law on January 1st, but was then struck by a major illness only 2 days later that required surgery. He even celebrated the service of the men and women in uniform by introducing Army Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg, who was left blind in 1 eye and disabled from a 2009 roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
The president pledged to continue to try and work with congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle to move the country forward. However, Mr. Obama’s big message of the night was that if Republicans continue to remain the “Party of NO!” and fight any and every proposal presented to them, his new strategy will be to go over their heads and use executive privilege whenever possible to get things done. It was a stark contrast to his first term in office, when Mr. Obama tried to a fault to create unity and harmony to no avail.
Mr. Obama’s speech was indeed masterful, however it was the Republican response that turned out to be the most memorable — for all the wrong reasons.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers was the fresh, new face the GOP chose to represent them in the traditional State of the Union rebuttal. It was a unique opportunity for Mrs. Rodgers to introduce herself to the country, then explain point by point how today’s Republican party differs from the proposals of the president. Sadly, she failed.
Instead of using the rare television moment to present a contrasting political platform to that of the president’s, Mrs. Rodgers instead came off as a female replica of the old children’s television show host, “Mr. Rogers.” The 5-term congresswoman spoke of growing up working at her family’s apple orchard and fruit stand in eastern Washington State. She spoke of the baby she had only a few short weeks ago. She even (oddly) spoke of how she looks forward to her young son, Cole, getting on his school bus every morning. But for all the “violin” moments and emotional tugs Mrs. Rodgers attempted to lace throughout her speech, her words were lacking one very important component — context!
Rodgers spent 10 live televised minutes saying a whole bunch of nothing. For those of us old enough to remember the old “Wendy’s” hamburger commercial, it left most everyone saying: “Hey…Where’s The Beef???”
If anyone was keeping a scorecard, President Obama shined — but the Republican Party failed!
You hit it on the head with the Repub response DJ. That was some mess.
