OBAMA SKIPS WORLD LEADERS FOR ‘THE VIEW’
President Obama is in New York to speak to the United Nations General Assembly today. But it’s who he’s not speaking to that’s causing a sea of criticism.
Mr. Obama spent yesterday hobnobbing with Whoopi Goldberg and the ladies of “The View,” instead of meeting with any one of a variety of world leaders in town for the U.N. event — and a lot of political watchers are confused.
Mitt Romney and the Republicans pounced all over the president’s rather odd choice in schedule. Even some Democrats wondered aloud why he skipped the rare opportunity to go mano-a-mano with a dozen or so world leaders.
The White House explained that instead of President Obama meeting with world leaders, he dispatched Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to meet with the leaders in his place. Hmmm…
Did President Obama make the right choice in bypassing the myriad of world leaders readily available to him in New York City? Did he fail to realize the potent political opportunity it would have handed him to be photographed front and center among global leaders — something Mitt Romney could not have staged? Or is it possible that sending Hillary Clinton was a conscious and calculated choice aimed at setting her up for another run for the presidency in 2016?
