OBAMA SURPRISES TROOPS
Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden. So what did President Obama do to mark this momentous day? He went to Afghanistan.
The president received thunderous applause and shouts of support when he surprised the men and women of the U.S. military with an unexpected visit.
Arriving under the cover of darkness, Mr. Obama and Afghan President Hamid Karzai signed a strategic partnership agreement at the Afghan leader’s palace that spells out a long-term U.S. role in Afghanistan. The deal provided Afghans with reassurances that they will not be abandoned once NATO combat troops leave as planned in 2014. The visit was also an opportunity for Mr. Obama to differentiate his approach to the Afghan war from that of his predecessor, George W. Bush, whose response to the 9/11 attacks on the United States led to an unpopular war in Iraq.
“My fellow Americans, we have traveled through more than a decade under the dark cloud of war. Yet here, in the pre-dawn darkness of Afghanistan, we can see the light of a new day on the horizon,” Mr. Obama said during a televised address to the American people from a military base.
“As we emerge from a decade of conflict abroad and economic crisis at home, it’s time to renew America,” he said. “This time of war began in Afghanistan, and this is where it will end.”
In total, nearly 3,000 U.S. and NATO soldiers have died during the Afghanistan war since the Taliban rulers were ousted in 2001.

I think the President's trip to Afghanistan at this time was appropriate. It's also appropriate for him to remind the American people of his foreign policy and national security achievements, in particular, the killing of Bin-Laden and the fact that the President HAS kept us safe. But the point is: Bin-Laden IS dead now. And there ain't gonna be NO *Victory* in Afghanistan any more than the war in Iraq resulted in *Victory.* H*ll. It's being reported that a series of suicide bombs went off right after the President's visit. I say Enough lives have been lost and severely damaged. Enough families have been shattered. Time to wind down and bring this neoCON madness to… Read more »
