Obama Visits Tornado-Ravaged Oklahoma
President Obama toured the tornado-stricken town of Moore, Oklahoma this past Sunday, which provided him the opportunity to be “Consoler-in-Chief” and diverted attention away from last week’s series of White House scandals involving the IRS and AP wire-tapping.
Mr. Obama thanked rescuers and comforted survivors amid a backdrop of widespread devastation that reduced the area to rubble.
“Obviously, a picture is worth a thousand words, and what we’re seeing here I think gives you some sense of what the people … of Oklahoma have been dealing with over these last several days,” the president said. “You’ve got folks behind you,” Mr. Obama told survivors. “Our hearts go out to you.”
The monstrous EF5 tornado killed 24 people, including 10 children, and destroyed 1,200 homes.
