Obamacare Repeal Based On Race?

Obamacare Repeal
Based On Race?

Republicans are dancing in the streets today after (finally) voting to successfully repeal Obamacare. Is former President Barack Obama’s signature health care initiative really that bad, or is a more sinister plot in play?

Politics
From the moment Mr. Obama decided to place all bets on creating health care for all, Republicans were hell-bent on tearing it down. In fact, the GOP spent 4 years and 54 congressional votes attempting to kill the Affordable Care Act. Additionally, Donald Trump made Obamacare his #1 enemy and #1 target on Day 1 in The White House, promising to present something bigger and better.

He didn’t!

Needless to say, Trumpcare was a haphazard and make-shift fiasco (rushed to creation just to tear down Obamacare) that crashed and burned without ever making it to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote. However, a deeply embarrassed Trump and party reintroduced Trumpcare 2.0 late last week (including a few changes) and somehow got it passed.

Obamacare

Photos of giddy GOP members laughing at their vote to essentially kill millions of uninsured Americans quickly flooded social media. They could hardly contain their glee in not only voting to beat Obamacare, but in voting to drive millions of poor Americans with pre-existing conditions into health-care hell.

Yes, if you happen to suffer any ailment from acne to ulcers, the Republican-led House of Representatives voted to grant insurance companies permission to deny you coverage. (Interestingly, male erectile dysfunction and the need for Viagra did NOT get the ax, as the all-white male congressmen made sure to take care of themselves).

HERE IS A FULL LIST OF UNCOVERED AILMENTS:

How Trump and his cronies actually believed that dismantling Obamacare and throwing millions of Americans into limbo would be “bigger and better” is beyond comprehension. However, what if that was only half of their plan?

Granted, the GOP and the “good ol’ boys club” would much prefer to continue providing themselves and their wealthy friends the best health care available, without having to pay for those lowly Americans who can’t help themselves. However, Republicans are also on a fast-track toward “eracism” — their way of completely erasing the 8 years of that black man who once lived in their White House.

Republicans NEVER liked Barack Obama. They proved it by holding a secret meeting on the day of his first inauguration, promising to block any and everything he ever attempted to accomplish. Their “gentlemen’s agreement” had nothing to do with policy, since he had only been president for a few hours and had not yet attempted anything. So, what was it really about? Race!

Since that day, Republicans have been able to convince a racially sensitive segment of Americans that Barack Obama was “The Boogey-Man” and that Donald Trump was “The Great White Hope” who could take back America (from the minorities) and make it great (white) again. White racists ate it up like a pack of wild dogs at a church barbecue. They didn’t care about facts — they only cared about race.

Politics
This is why Donald Trump has used the power of executive order to erase every Obama program one by one with the swipe of a pen. This is why Republicans are attempting to deny Mr. Obama his pension for accepting a speaking engagement that reportedly will pay him $400,000. This is why poor white Americans ignorantly shot themselves in the foot by voting for Trump without first realizing they were voting against their own interests.

For example, hundreds of thousands of coal miners throughout the Rust Belt voted for Trump, believing he could magically bring coal jobs back (at this point, even God can’t). However, they were shocked to learn that the medications for coal miners disease provided under Obamacare that was keeping them alive would be discontinued under Trumpcare. There’s more.

A December 2016 poll showed that 67% of Trump voters believed that unemployment had risen during Mr. Obama’s tenure, which is false since it dramatically declined. A February 2017 poll found that one-third of all Americans were eager to support the Affordable Care Act but quick to denounce Obamacare — without realizing they were the exact same thing. Additionally, more than half of the Republicans in that poll were unaware that any repeal of Obamacare would also gut Medicaid.

Republicans believe that anything named after or connected to Barack Obama is bad and they want it gone YESTERDAY — even if it causes 20 million people to lose their health insurance and ignite a public health crisis of unimaginable consequence. Fortunately, it’s not that easy.

The American political system is based on 3 branches of government, meaning last week’s House vote to repeal Obamacare is only the 1st of many steps before it can become law. The House bill will now go to the Senate, which will almost assuredly make a myriad of changes or (more likely) completely kill it altogether. However, if it survives, the revised bill will then head back to the House, which will decide if they approve of the changes — or not.

As Americans realize the enormous losses they will face if the GOP bill ever becomes reality, public sentiment could become a factor in preventing the repeal of Obamacare from ever moving forward. Regardless, Democrats are feeling confident that Republicans have now set the table for a huge defeat in next year’s midterm election.

  1. Another great post DJ backed up by the facts.

I have a few thoughts on that dog and pony show Trump, Ryan and other Repubs put on last Thursday or Friday to give the APPEARANCE that they had actually "repealed" Obamacare – when in reality they've done no such thing.

In fact the "haphazard, make-shift fiasco (rushed to creation just to tear down Obamacare " that they voted on last week -Trumpcare 2.0 – is such a "sh*tsandwich" that almost immediately following the House vote (which barely squeaked by) the majority Repub Senate publicly announced that the bill was basically D.O.A. The Senate will do its own thing.

But Trump was SO desperate for even the OPTICS of a win that he (no doubt) told Ryan "just send me a bill…ANY bill so I can sign it." The guy serves a constituency of One. Himself. And d*mn the consequences.

In the words of Joe Scarborough, Ryan the Repubs "got rolled" by Trump. Will the repubs pay a price in the 2018 midterm elections? Well…..we shall see.

But if the Angry town-halls which took place across the country over the weekend are any indication of just how outraged a lot of (mostly) White people feel about that sorry-azz "repeal" vote then maybe, just maybe, the midterms will be quite competitive.

I don't have a lot of faith in angry Dems showing up to vote…not in real numbers anyway. But having access to affordable healthcare, especially for pre-existing conditions, is an extremely personal and critical matter ..so Dems just may show up at the polls in 2018. But again, We shall see.

As to DJ's original question: Is the effort to "repeal" Obamacare primarily about race/Racism and undoing the achievements of America's first Black president?

    Yes.

  2. ….on a related note, even some right-wingers saw through the optics of the so-called "repeal" of Obamacare

"Was {the} Rose Garden presser designed to convince Americans that ObamaCare was repealed?"

    Excerpt:

They repealed it! Promise made, promise kept. In hindsight, Trump should have had a “Mission Accomplished” banner at his press conference on bombing Syria. Maybe 40 percent of the country would have concluded that Assad had been ousted from power and America had taken Damascus.

Even I can’t easily stomach the cynicism needed to believe voters might be this easily fooled about major legislation, so let’s go with David Harsanyi’s interpretation of the Rose Garden event instead — the celebration was designed to trumpet a rare victory in Congress and to put pressure on the Senate to deliver. McConnell and his caucus are reluctant to dive into the health-care lava pit; Trump’s telling them to come on in, the water’s fine. In fact, he vowed during today’s presser that “we’re going to get this passed through the Senate,” which is … unlikely. But a pep rally at the White House may make it easier for the Senate to produce something, especially if it gets Republican voters excited about what comes next. They do know that there’s something that comes next, right? – HotAir

We're stuck with obamacare for the long term, until the system collapses and we shift to single payer. We have made such a tremendous mess of the healthcare industry that it cannot survive without government subsidies. […]

    RedState Reader:
Hopefully the Senate gives us single payer. Trump tonite turned to Prime minister Turnbull of Australia and said " I shouldn't say this in front of you, Australia has much better health care than we do". Um, Australia has single payer. Hey do you think Ryan told Trump this bill was single payer? Really, does Trump even know what this bill is going to do?

Yes folks, our President told the leader of a country with single payer that they have "better health care than we do". So if they have better health care why shouldn't we have that? Trump is disabled, plain and simple and we made him president. What does that make us? As Bugs Bunny says "what a maroon!" […]

    RS Reader
I find it difficult to consider this "repeal and replace" when I don't think does either. […]

  3. …..a side-note…..

I digress for just a moment to give a SHOUT OUT!..to the French people for having the Courage and the Wisdom to REJECT the seemingly "rising tide" of right-wing fascism via their votes in their presidential election yesterday.

    Well. Done.

ALL eyes were on France yesterday to see what course Europe would take. The message was definitive…at least for now.

Emmanuel Macron (a centrist) was elected with 66.1% of the vote (higher than expected) versus his opponent the "female Trump" Marine Le Pen who got only 33.9% (lower than expected). Btw- in France the majority vote actually counts. Imagine that.

Given the outcome of France's election yesterday added to recent presidential elections in Austria and the Netherlands, where the politics of FEAR, division, ignorance and HATE, were also resoundingly REJECTED (in both countries) in favor of a more Inclusive and forward-thinking society I'd say it is quite telling.

Think about it. The two countries to fall prey to such obvious Poison are Britain (Brexit) and the United States (Trump).

What does it say about the electorate of those two nations?

  4. DJ you hit it out of the park today. Great article. These Repubs are fooling nobody but themselves. The House members who can't think straight and only want to erase Obama like you said don't care how they do it. But the senate is a little bit smarter. A lot of them don't like Obama either but they know they will pay politically if they let this Trump care BS go through. I think they are going to kill it in the senate and defeat Trump again. But like Truth said Trump like a lot of fanfare so he make up a photo op to make it look like Repubs had repealed Obamacare but they didn't. He thinks we are stupid but he's the one who is.

  5. I mean this is admittedly reaching, but you've made a solid point. I think Republicans spent so long hating Obama, that they're doing everything they can to exact revenge for some imaginary sleight. Great write up, and good job arguing a challenging point.
