AL FRANKEN is expected to be sworn in today as the Democratic U.S. Senator from Minnesota.  This comes after an 8 month battle between Franken and the former incumbent Senator, Republican Norm Coleman, with just over 300 votes preventing a clear winner being named last November.  Franken will give Democrats the coveted 60 seat filibuster proof majority, paving the way for the likely swift confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court, among other issues.

Mark Sanford.  In light of the fact that he may have used state funds for his trips to tryst with his mistress in Argentina, Republicans had the option to reprimand the Governor or begin full blown impeachment proceedings.
