The King of Pop Michael Jackson will be mourned in funeral services today in Los Angeles. Virtually every major network plans live coverage of the event, which should effectively preempt most other news of the day. In light of this fact, we too will pause today in reverence to perhaps the greatest entertainer EVER. RIP Michael Jackson.

AL FRANKEN is expected to be sworn in today as the Democratic U.S. Senator from Minnesota. This comes after an 8 month battle between Franken and the former incumbent Senator, Republican Norm Coleman, with just over 300 votes preventing a clear winner being named last November. Franken will give Democrats the coveted 60 seat filibuster proof majority, paving the way for the likely swift confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court, among other issues.
The Republican Party of South Carolina met yesterday to decide just how to handle the embarrassing situation regarding Gov. Mark Sanford. In light of the fact that he may have used state funds for his trips to tryst with his mistress in Argentina, Republicans had the option to reprimand the Governor or begin full blown impeachment proceedings. In the end, they decided to censure Sanford.
