Omar Rises Above ‘Send Her Back’ Chants

- Congresswoman takes the high road against Trump.

Spread The Love

After enduring a verbal beat-down from Donald Trump and his cult-like followers, Rep. Ilhan Omar is fighting back — with love.

Politics
Last week, Donald Trump instigated a divisive and race-baiting fight with Rep. Omar as well as Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley. Trump told the freshmen congresswomen who are Native-American, Muslim, African-American, and Hispanic that if they don’t like America, they should “go back” to where they came from.

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run,” Trump tweeted.

Interestingly, Rep. Omar is from Minnesota, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez is from New York, Rep. Tlaib is from Michigan, and Rep. Pressley is from Massachusetts — so, they are already where they come from.

Next, ‘The Donald’ singled out Rep. Omar (who is Muslim) during a campaign rally in Greenville, NC, and whipped the crowd into a frenzy. His dog-whistle via words gave birth to a chant of “Send Her Back!” from the ravenous crowd.

Well, she did go back — to her home state of Minnesota — and received an overwhelming welcome of love and support from the constituents of her state.

“It is really good to be home,” Omar said to a standing ovation from the multi-racial crowd. “I know there are a lot of people that are trying to distract us now. But I want you to all to know that we are not going to let them. … You all sent me to Washington to do the important work of progressing our country,” she said.

Then, the Minnesota congresswoman took to Twitter and posted an excerpt from poet Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise.”

“You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.”

.

She then followed up by tweeting a photo of herself standing in the House of Representatives with the caption “I am where I belong, at the people’s house and you’re just gonna have to deal!”

.

Donald Trump and his crazed crowd may have won the day with their shouts of “Send Her Back!” However, Rep. Ilhan Omar won the race by elevating herself about the fray and remaining a professional and a true American.

Take a lesson, Donnie!

But too bad she (and her 3 Dem colleagues) couldn’t find a less confrontational way to handler their disagreements with Nancy Pelosi. Instead, Ocasio-Cortez, in particular gave Trump just the weapon he needed to inject himself into the squabble between them and Pelosi. But I’ll get to “the Squad” in my related response. This is about Trump….and Trump being Who and What he is …naturally he dived for the absolute lowest level. He’s a bottom-feeder. The deeper and darker the pit the lower he goes…and his supporters gladly follow. I heard someone say (paraphrasing) Regardless of whether Trump actually is a racist, when Racists believe you’re a Racist…You’re a racist. Let me be clear. Trump IS a racist and he doesn’t actually give a sh*t about… Read more »

Now about the initial quote by Ocasio-Cortez (in response to Pelosi) that Trump seized upon to launch his racist screeds, in the first place:

“But the persistent singling out . . . it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful . . . the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”

Quite a few people interpreted that quote to mean that OC was implying that Nancy Pelosi is a racist…an incredibly serious accusation that IMO is totally unfounded, having NO foundation or basis in fact…not to mention incredibly offensive. Nonetheless, Trump seized on the opportunity to take it all to a whole other place and exploit it for ALL its worth, probably right into the 2020 elections.

2020 will be a referendum on Racism in America and White supremacy.

I also want to add………

In no way am I saying I agree with the way Nancy Pelosi has handled everything. As not only the Speaker, but also the de facto leader of the Dem party, she certainly could have and should have handled the ongoing disagreements in a more productive fashion. Her very public smack-down of the Congresswomen was uncalled for. Full Stop.

Having said that.

Right now I’m about tired of those 4 Congresswomen. Frankly I expected better from Ayanna Pressley. If ANY of these Congresswomen (all FRESHMEN) intend to be of any real benefit in service to their constituents, the Dem Party and to this Country, they had better learn the lessons they’re being taught right now.

Mr.BD

I agree with you Truth. But they were sent there to stir things up and that is what they are doing. The only problem is the Dems are going to have to be unified to beat Trump. So they are going to have to fall in line and stop trying to change everything all at once. They need to learn a couple of lessons first and that is what Nancy has been doing. But I don’t want them to screw this all up for us by them trying to be trail blazers.

Truthiz1

That’s exactly what I’m saying BD. They could muck things up for all of Us trying to take over leadership of the Dem party. This is the most critical tipping point in Our nation’s history since the Civil War. WE don’t have time to waste dealing with 4 Freshman wannabe trailblazers, who are hell bent on trying to jump to the head of the line. They had better learn a few things first!

Mr.BD

I am glad she kept it classy. But Dems are going to have to fight this devil back. All this racist hate is out of hand and will have to be dealt with sooner or later because somebody is going to get hurt. That pic of the Trump followers is real disturbing. They showed us who they are so we have to be ready to defend ourselves from all that evil.
