THE OSCARS… A HIT OR A MISS?
It was a night of glam and glitz. But was it a hit or a miss?
The 83rd Annual Academy Awards was held last night at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The stars were all out in full force, with red seemingly the color of choice among the night’s most memorable evening gowns and most beautiful women. Dual hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway were an “interesting” experiment, but did it work? And is the general public really interested in who won for Best Sound Mixing, Animation, or Editing? Hmmm…
The evening provided some expected wins, but also a few surprises. THE KING’S SPEECH won the biggest throughout the night, while THE SOCIAL NETWORK got virtually shut out. But perhaps the biggest surprise of all, is that this telecast could have been shortened to 30 minutes, instead of force-stretched into nearly 4 hours. After all, the most interesting and important awards end up within the final minutes anyway.
Among the night’s most prestigious wins were:
Best Picture: The King’s Speech (Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Gareth Unwin)
Best Actor (Leading): Colin Firth (The King’s Speech)
Best Actress (Leading): Natalie Portman (Black Swan)
Best Director: The King’s Speech (Tom Hooper)
