Paul Ryan Ends Congressional Career
In a shock to the political world and a blow to the Republican Party, House Speaker Paul Ryan announced on Wednesday that he is done being Speaker of the House, that he will not seek re-election, and that he will retire from Congress at the end of this year.

“You realize something when you take this job,” Ryan said Wednesday morning. “It’s a big job with a lot riding on you … but you also know this is not a job that does not last forever. … You realize you hold the office for just a small part of our history. So you better make the most of it.” He added that he took the job “reluctantly” in 2015 when he replaced former Speaker John Boehner and that he has “no regrets.”
“I like to think I’ve done my part, my little part in history to set us on a better course,” Ryan said.
Paul Ryan then added the obligatory statement that he’s leaving behind the top post on Capitol Hill so that he can “spend more time” with his family. However, it doesn’t take a sharp eye to see this as a boatload of BS. In reality, Ryan wants out of Congress and the Republican leadership position in the same way the passengers wanted off The Titanic. He sees Donald Trump as the new Captain of the GOP and recognizes that no matter what anyone says or does, the sinking of the ship is now inevitable. Eventually, Trump is going down and he will be taking the GOP with him, so, it’s best for Paul Ryan to get out now before the devastation begins.
“Speaker Paul Ryan is a truly good man, and while he will not be seeking re-election, he will leave a legacy of achievement that nobody can question. We are with you Paul!” Trump tweeted.
Although Speaker Ryan may be a good man, he is certainly a smart one. Donald Trump’s approval ratings are at historic lows for any president. Almost every major poll has already predicted an epic GOP defeat in the 2018 midterms. Trump’s agenda (and by default, the Republican agenda) is going nowhere fast. Donald Trump may also very well face impeachment proceedings in the coming months.
Why would Paul Ryan want to deal with such malarkey? He doesn’t — which is why he’s jumping ship before Trump runs it into the ground. The only thing for him to do now is to sit back and see which Republicans will be next to follow him.
DJ, my friend, your entire post hits it OUT the park. It just missed being a Grand Slam….Lol. Let’s not forget Paul Ryan’s True claim to fame within the GOP- his supposed “Master economic plan” championed FOR YEARS by Ryan, McConnell and other so-called “fiscal Conservative” Repubs; the same mythical Tax-CUT and spending plan Paul and Co. confidently assured all of America would lead to significant decreases in the U.S. debt and deficit; the same mythical Tax-CUT and spending plan recently passed by majority Repub votes in both the House and Senate; the same mythical TAX-CUT and spending Bill embraced by, and recently signed into law by their dim-bulb President…Trump. The same ACTUAL Tax-CUT and spending Bill that the CBO report – released just days ago – now says “will push the budget deficit to $804 billion this year and just under $1 trillion for the upcoming budget year.” “Economic… Read more »
