French actor Gerard Depardieu is known for many memorable performances. But no performance will ever be more memorable than the one he delivered recently aboard a CityJet flight from Paris to Dublin.
According to witnesses, Depardieu boarded the flight noticeably and highly intoxicated, a state which caused him to need to relieve himself in the aircraft lavatory as the jet taxied for takeoff. But when Depardieu left his seat and headed toward the restroom, flight attendants told him to return to his seat since the toilet facilities would be unavailable until after the flight was airborne. And that is when Depardieu reportedly did the unthinkable — he unzipped his pants and simply urinated right there in the aisle!
But friends of the actor have protectively issued a very different account of the “peeing” tale, saying they offered Depardieu a bottle due to his “irrepressible need” to urinate. According to them, he used it “after making sure he wasn’t seen,” but accidentally spilt a small amount of urine on the floor.
A spokesperson for CityJet has since confirmed that Depardieu did “in effect, urinate in the plane.” But the airline later tweeted “As you may have seen on the news, we are busy mopping the floor of one of our planes this morning,” adding in a second tweet: “We’d also like to remind all passengers that our planes are fully equipped with toilet facilities.” Hmmm…
