Pennsylvania Church Escapes Mass Murderer
Congregants of a predominantly African-American Pennsylvania church are “blessed” to be alive today after they unknowingly turned away a visitor who was there for nefarious reasons that didn’t include the Lord.
Current Events :
The Greater Dominion Church in Ambridge, Pennsylvania was so packed with worshippers this past Sunday, that ushers ultimately decided it was necessary to turn participants away in the interest of safety. One such participant was 38-year-old Jeffrey Harris, a local White man who said he wanted to visit the church but was denied entry due to overcrowding.
Thankfully, the decision to deny Harris and additional worshippers ended up saving a lot of lives.
According to CBS News, Harris left the church then immediately threatened 2 women with a gun he was carrying. One of the women was able to call authorities who responded quickly and arrested him.
“There was a white male, camo vest, red hat, and white t-shirt walking with a possible long gun down Duss Avenue,” Ambridge Police Chief John DeLuca said. The fact he was dressed in this manner, was found to be carrying a 12-gauge shotgun and multiple rounds of ammunition, and had just been turned away from a Black church allowed officers to conclude that Harris was “attempting to enter the church with a long gun to commit a hate crime.”
When officers arrived at Harris’ home to investigate their suspicions, they faced difficulty at the entryway due to a mysterious slippery substance that had been smeared across the porch.
“They found the steps up to the residence had some type of lubrication on them,” DeLuca said.
The house “appeared ready for a standoff,” he continued. Investigators then discovered a makeshift barrier to the front door and a hole drilled into a weapons case, which would have allowed Harris to “fire at the door from a protected position.” Officers then found a blue notebook that contained a “handwritten script” detailing his plans to conduct a shooting that Sunday morning.
Bishop Kenneth Crumb of the Pennsylvania church thanked God that his building was too crowded to admit the gunman.
“When you just think about how close we came to having the same kind of horrific situation that we had at the synagogue in Pittsburgh, it’s like the grace of God,” Crumb said, referring to the 2018 religious hate massacre at the Tree of Life that left 11 dead.
“Thank God for his grace, for his covering over us, because this could have gone a totally different way,” Crumb said.
Truer words couldn’t have been spoken. Had the gunman arrived just a bit earlier for the service, its members might not have been so lucky.
Ironically, the prevented massacre at the Pennsylvania church occurred only a day after a white gunman killed three black people in Jacksonville, Florida., in what police described as a “racially motivated” attack that occurred near a historically black college.
“There are a whole lot of mass murders going on, there are shootings, particularly in the African American community, people targeting our communities,” Crumb added.
His words underscore a growing belief that it is once again open season on Black people and that everyone should stay vigilant and alert for their own safety.
