POLICE CAN GET YOUR CELL DATA
Can the police extract personal data from your cell phone without your knowing it? Surprisingly, YES!
The American Civil Liberties Union says the Michigan State Police is using cellphone extraction devices on people they pull over. But no one knows just how much information the Michigan State Police is extracting and storing, or even why they’re doing it. And the police aren’t giving up any answers either. When the Michigan ACLU branch tried to seek answers on the controversial and secretive practice, the Michigan Police responded by saying any inquiry would cost a whopping $500,000 to process. RIDICULOUS!
But if that information scares you, here’s another shocker: the Department of Homeland Security also uses extraction devices on travelers’ computers and cellphones to gather personal data. Needless to say, the ACLU is aggressively fighting against such tactics, saying it is a blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment.
