Proof Of Vaccine Required In NYC, Elsewhere
If you’re planning to be in New York City anytime soon or patronize certain establishments, be prepared to provide proof of vaccine for entry.
Current Events
As previously reported here on OK WASSUP!, vaccine passports have widely been expected to one day become the norm. Well, that day has come. On Tuesday, New York Mayor Bill De Blasio announced a sweeping new executive order that will affect all residents and visitors to the Big Apple.
Beginning September 13th, anyone in NYC wishing to dine in a restaurant, work out in a gym, see a Broadway show, go to a movie theatre, drink in a bar, or dance in a nightclub will be required to show proof of vaccine for the coronavirus or else be denied entry.
Interestingly, Equinox, Soul Cycle, and Morgan Stanley announced on Monday that they too will require a ‘vaccine passport’ in order to gain entry to their establishments.
De Blasio’s NYC executive order is a blueprint for other major metropolitan US cities, which many expect will soon follow suit with their own proof of vaccine requirements.
The move is in response to the millions of Americans who have refused to get the COVID vaccine but still expect to live, work, and participate in society along with everyone else.
The message here is clear. Yes, Americans have the right to refuse to get the vaccine. However, businesses and entertainment establishments will now have the right to refuse service or entry to those who have placed their own personal freedoms above the health and safety of the rest of the country.
“It’s time for people to see vaccination as literally necessary to living a good and full and healthy life,” Mayor De Blasio said Tuesday during a news conference. “Not everyone is going to agree with this, I understand that. But for so many people, this is going to be a lifesaving act, that we are putting a mandate in place that is going to guarantee a much higher level of vaccination in this city. And that is the key to protecting people, and the key to our recovery.”
“If you want to participate in our society fully, you’ve got to get vaccinated,” De Blasio added. “It’s time.”
New York City will create a health app called the “Key to NYC Pass” as vaccination proof for its residents to gain entry to establishments throughout the city’s 5 boroughs. Without this app or a valid vaccination card, residents and visitors will be blocked from “playing any reindeer games” and enjoying the food, music, and culture that the city has to offer.
Atlanta has already established a mask mandate for everyone, vaccinated or not, at all indoor establishments. Expect Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, and other US cities to follow NYC’s lead and announce their own proof of vaccine requirements soon.
I remember you said we were going to have passports a few months ago DJ. It is starting now in New York and I think other places are going to follow suit next. Making people have vaccine proof is a good idea. If you refuse to get the shot we refuse to let you in a restaurant.
