The world has spent the past few days celebrating the life of music impresario Quincy Jones, who passed away on Sunday.

Quincy Jones was known as an artist, bandleader, composer, arranger, and producer with a career that spanned 7 decades. He was also a 28-time Grammy winner. However, he will likely be best remembered as the man who shaped the musical career of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the Jones family said in a statement announcing his death. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him. He is truly one of a kind and we will miss him dearly; we take comfort and immense pride in knowing that the love and joy, that were the essence of his being, was shared with the world through all that he created. Through his music and his boundless love, Quincy Jones’ heart will beat for eternity.”

Tributes have poured in all week for the music legend.

“For all of us who value what Quincy Jones contributed to art, society, and the human race, he was the World..we are his children,” Steven Spielberg, who directed The Color Purple (which Jones produced) said in a statement.

“Quincy changed the course of popular music numerous times during his illustrious career, widening its horizons and bringing his take on jazz, R&B and pop to the mainstream. We celebrate his spirit and honor his tremendous contribution to our understanding and appreciation of music,” The Michael Jackson Estate said in a statement.

“Quincy Jones is the true definition of a Mentor, a Father, and a Friend. He pointed me toward the greatest parts of myself. He defended me. He nurtured me. He encouraged me. He inspired me. He checked me when he needed to. He let me use his wings until mine were strong enough to fly,” actor Will Smith said of the man who launched his career by hiring him to star in The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air — a show Jones produced.

Quincy Jones was 91.
