Barack Obama as the first Black President really set a lot of people off. First, there was the picture of watermelons on the White House lawn distributed by a California mayor. Then there was the “comparing Michelle Obama to a Gorilla” joke posted on Facebook by an ex GOP official. Next up was the Presidential “keepsake photo” sent around by a Tennessee state government staffer. Now it appears Atwater, CA City Councilman Gary Frago wants his turn on Racists “contestants row.”
For the past several months, Frago has sent at least half-a-dozen e-mails to city staffers and prominent community members containing racist jokes directed at President Obama, his wife, family, and black people in general. Local newspaper The Merced Sun-Star obtained at least seven e-mails Frago sent from October 2008 to February 2009, some of which compared the President to O.J. Simpson while others made free use of the “N” word.
“I don’t see where there’s a story. I’m not the only one that does it,” a clueless Fargo said in his defense once the newspaper made the offensive emails public. “I didn’t originate them, they came to me and I just passed them on.” Hmmm…. Well as long as he didn’t “originate” them I guess that must be OK. Sort of like if I didn’t “originate” swine flu, it must be OK for me to cough on everybody and pass that around freely too.
